The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) on Monday released a statement on the controversial 60 Minutes clip featuring an incomplete exchange between Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi, concluding the show “was not obligated to show an entire two-minute interview” but adding it “should have provided more context.” While SPJ explained it is “common practice for print, TV and radio reporters to use portions of longer quotes in a piece,” SPJ Ethics Committee Chair Danielle McLean concluded 60 Minutes “should have at least summed up the on-the-record context from the governor, especially since the segment reported the selection of a vaccine distributor may have been influenced by pay-to-play.” “But I do think Gov. DeSantis provided valuable context about the process the state went through that led to the decision to distribute vaccines at Publix grocery stores,” McLean said in the statement: I think ‘60 Minutes’ should have at least … [Read more...] about Society of Professional Journalists: 60 Minutes ‘Should Have Provided More Context’ to DeSantis Segment
Nvidia this week introduced a host of professional graphics solutions for desktops and laptops, which carry the Nvidia RTX A-series monikers and do not use the Quadro branding. The majority of the new units are based on the Ampere architecture and therefore bring the latest features along with drivers certified by developers of professional software. To address market segments with different needs, Nvidia this week introduced its RTX A5000 and RTX A4000 professional graphics cards. The Nvidia RTX A5000 sits below the RTX A6000 but has the exact same feature set, including support for 2-way … [Read more...] about Nvidia Launches New Professional Ampere Graphics for Desktops and Laptops
By Bob Salsberg, The Associated Press BOSTON — Changing marijuana laws aren’t necessarily making weed more welcome in the workplace. For now, many employers appear to be sticking with their drug testing and personal conduct policies, even in states where recreational marijuana use is now permitted. Others are keeping a close eye on the still evolving legal, regulatory and political environment. (A recount of Maine’s close result is scheduled.) More than two dozen states have medical marijuana programs. But the drug is still against federal law. A closer look at what it all means for workers and businesses: CAN MY EMPLOYER STILL TEST ME FOR POT? Bottom line: You can’t come to work high. You can still be drug tested. And you can still be fired — or not hired — for … [Read more...] about Can my employer fire me for legally using marijuana?

Maryland is the first to repeal the law. Maryland’s leaders will have to learn the lesson the hard way while other states like California … [Read more...] about Jason C.
