PARIS: France's COVID-19 death toll rose on Thursday (Apr 15) to more than 100,000, according to the latest hospital figures from the health ministry, a bleak statistic for President Emmanuel Macron's government. Data from the health ministry's GEODES website said French hospitals registered 300 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, which, pushing the overall tally to more than 100,000. "As all our energy is now focused on exiting this ordeal, we will not forget any face or any name," Macron said on Twitter. France has the world's eighth-highest COVID-19 death toll. The United States is the worst-hit country in terms of COVID deaths, at 564,759, followed by Brazil, Russia and Mexico, according to a Reuters tally. The official Twitter accounts of the World Cup and FIFA's President Joseph Blatter have been hacked, apparently by Syrian hackers. On Monday afternoon, both @FifaWorldCup and @SeppBlatter started sending weird tweets, hinting that hackers had taken over control of the accounts. And it quickly became clear that the messages posted were not from their real owners. Both accounts started sending tweets about Joseph Blatter allegedly stepping down due to corruption charges stemming from an imaginary FIFA investigation that found that the Emir of Qatar had bribed Blatter to convince FIFA to select Qatar as the host of the 2022 World Cup. The foreign secretary is set to reveal which UK projects around the world will be axed or reduced following a decision to slash foreign aid spending by almost a third, Sky News understands. A statement to parliament was scheduled for this week but had to be postponed because of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh , according to two Whitehall sources. They said a new slot was set for next Thursday, but this has not yet been confirmed by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and it could yet be further delayed.
