The Magic’s rebuilding effort has been ongoing since they traded Dwight Howard to the Lakers in August of 2012. It’s still very much a work in progress, but it looks like GM Rob Hennigan is going to be given the opportunity to finish what he started, according to a new report from the Orlando Sentinel ‘s Josh Robbins : The Orlando Magic soon will seek to extend general manager Rob Hennigan’s contract beyond the 2015-16 season, an industry source with knowledge of the team’s plans told the Orlando Sentinel. The DeVos family and CEO Alex Martins are pleased with the job Hennigan has done since Hennigan was hired in June 2012. Martins, who would not comment for this article, likes to maintain continuity in key leadership positions. Martins also believes it’s dangerous to have a key executive work in the final season of a contract because uncertainty about job status can prompt an executive to make risky decisions for short-term gains. It’s tough to evaluate the job Hennigan … [Read more...] about Report: Magic plan to give GM Rob Hennigan a contract extension
RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazilian football could restart at the end of June, the secretary general of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) told Reuters on Tuesday – even though the number of coronavirus cases is still rising in South America’s hardest-hit nation. Walter Feldman said the return to action in the German Bundesliga, where nine first division games were played this weekend after a two-month hiatus, was a positive example for world football. "It was necessary to stop and returning is possible," Feldman told Reuters in an interview. "That is what we learnt from the return of football in Germany. Germany is a great sign. "Doors open in May, more open in June and I have no doubt that in June, with the return of training, sustained protocols and the chance of flexibility by the health authorities, football can return with restrictions," Feldman said. Some Brazilian teams have begun training again, with current champions Flamengo recalling players on Monday. The … [Read more...] about Brazilian football could restart in June – CBF
JOHANNESBURG: Anti-vaccine protesters took to the streets in Johannesburg on Wednesday (Jul 1) to voice their concern over Africa's first human trials for a potential coronavirus vaccine. Last Wednesday, the University of the Witwatersrand in partnership with Oxford University rolled out South Africa's first clinical trial, which will consist of 2,000 volunteers. The involvement of South Africa in vaccine trials is intended to ensure the continent will have access to an affordable vaccine and not be left at the back of the queue. About 50 people held protests at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, saying they did not want Africans to be used as guinea pigs, reflecting concerns among some on the continent over testing drugs on people who do not understand the risks. "I'm not happy at all! I mean this feels like the 1980s all over again when the AIDS pandemic just broke out in South Africa," said 29-year-old graphic designer Tebogo Legoale. Some of the … [Read more...] about ‘We are not guinea pigs,’ say South African anti-vaccine protesters

It would be a Friday, mid-afternoon, and Wilson would be road-tripping to see his quarterback tutor, John Beck, in southern California. On these trips, Wilson alternated between podcasts and an audiobook. (Steve Young’s lessons of the benefits of adversity in “ QB: My Life Behind the Spiral ” resonated strongly.) Wilson put his body on mind-clearing autopilot, driving through southwest Utah, skirting through 28 miles of northwest Arizona, then into the Pacific Time Zone, through the Vegas sprawl in southern Nevada, into the High Desert of southeastern California, into the SoCal ‘burbs and crashing at the home of … [Read more...] about FMIA: New Insight On NFL’s 17-Game Schedule. Season 10C brings with it another new nasty, in the form the Reapers. Who are the Reapers in The Walking Dead? At the moment we still don't know who the Reapers are as they don't feature in the comic books and haven't appeared on screen yet. They will be introduced at the end of the premiere episode of season 10C. Speaking about the Reapers, The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang told Den of Geek how the writing staff goes about crafting a new villain group, she said: “Whenever we’re dealing with a group from the comics, there’s usually a pretty well-defined kind of concept to them. "When we go to create groups that supplement material we’re taking from the comics, we try and take that same approach, which is to kind of say, what is their philosophy about how to survive? What did it come from? What is their background?" What happens … [Read more...] about Who are the Reapers in The Walking Dead?
