WhatsApp joins hands with CDMA Telangana for tax payment, updates

Facebook-owned WhatsApp on Thursday joined hands with the Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration ( CDMA ), Telangana to ease the process of tax payment for citizens across the region. The CDMA, Telangana has unveiled a dedicated WhatsApp channel that will be free-to-use and will also function as a source for up-to-date information about tax dues. "We're delighted to partner with CDMA, Telangana and support their efforts to promote a Digital India through impactful Government to Citizen (G2C) services on WhatsApp," Shivnath Thukral, Head of Public Policy, WhatsApp India, said in a statement. People can simply send a 'Hi' to CDMA, Telangana's official WhatsApp account on +91 90002 53342, to easily access these services and pay their taxes conveniently via a debit card, credit card or internet banking. The chatbot is currently available in English and Telugu, with CDMA working to add Urdu as an additional language soon. Australia Passes Law Forcing Google, Facebook to Pay News Publishers

The Australian government has reportedly passed a new law requiring Google and Facebook to pay news outlets for access to their content. The Verge reports that the Australian government has passed a law that will force tech giants like Google and Facebook to negotiate a payment scheme with news outlets for access to their content or face arbitration. Josh Frydenberg, the Australian Liberal party’s deputy leader, stated: “This is a significant milestone. Techie loses Rs 73,000 to conmen who offered iPhone for Rs 26,000

BENGALURU: A 26-year-old techie thought he had found a great deal on a high-end iPhone on Olx , the online platform for buying goods and services, but ended up losing Rs 73,000 to two conmen who fled with the money. Siddharth R, a software engineer with an IT firm in the city, saw an Olx advertisement on December 14 for an iPhone 8 Plus (64GB version) available for Rs 26,500. The original price is Rs 68,999. Siddarth called the number provided around noon the same day. Sahil Kumar, posing as a constable with the Central Industrial Security Force and posted at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA), said he was ready to sell the iPhone and asked him to meet him at KIA. As per Sahil’s instructions, Siddarth rushed to the airport cargo building by 4.30pm that day to check out the device.
