· February 3, 2021 ·

Washington state may soon push to end the sale of diesel-fueled cars by the year 2030 after a bill was introduced in the state legislature that would require all cars sold be electric. The bill, sponsored by more than two dozen Democrats, was introduced in both legislative chambers in January. The state House Transportation Committee held its first hearing on the bill Monday. ABC News reports that Washington legislators who support the bill said it would speed up the transition from gas-powered vehicles as well as building the infrastructure to support electric vehicles. ADVERTISEMENT Coltura, an environmental nonprofit that helped in drafting the bill, states that 99 percent of vehicles in Washington are gas-powered and the bill would affect over 10 million vehicles in the following 30 years. Democratic state Rep. Report: Alex Smith to part ways with Washington Football team

· March 1, 2021 ·

The Washington Football team and quarterback Alex Smith will part ways soon, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones. Smith, a former No. 1 overall pick, was the 2020 NFL Comeback Player of the Year thanks to his return from a gruesome leg injury that nearly ended his career. Smith was one of four starting quarterbacks for Washington in Ron Rivera’s first season as head coach. He helped lead the program into the playoffs, but could not take the field against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for injury reasons. Washington turned to Taylor Heinicke , who recently signed a new two-year contract with the Football Team. “(Smith) has said he still wants to play, and at age 36 may have a chance to do so,” Rapoport reported. Smith recently had comments from a GQ interview go viral regarding his time spent in Washington. They never thought I was coming back. No one there," Smith said . "I did all my rehab outside of the building. They do ACLs and stuff like that. … [Read more...] about Report: Alex Smith to part ways with Washington Football team

Washington extends QB Taylor Heinicke

· February 10, 2021 ·

Washington Football quarterback Taylor Heinicke has agreed to a two-year extension with the franchise, the team announced on Wednesday. According to a report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport , the said deal is reportedly worth $8.75 million, and includes incentives that will depend on how many games he starts for Washington. The news comes roughly a month after Heinicke was heralded for his efforts, though amid defeat, as Washington's starting quarterback vs. the eventual-Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wildcard Round of the NFC Playoffs. Starting in place of an injured Alex Smith, Heinicke passed for 306 yards and accounted for a pair of touchdowns -- one passing and one rushing -- in the 31-23 home loss to Tampa Bay. Signed by Washington in December, Heinicke offered the team a familiar face who was familiar with their offense, as he had first worked with the Turner family on the Minnesota Vikings before joining Rivera on the Carolina Panthers in 2018. … [Read more...] about Washington extends QB Taylor Heinicke

U. of Washington Launches ‘Center for Antiracism in Nursing’

· March 4, 2021 ·

The University of Washington (UW) has announced that it will be launching a “Center for Antiracism in Nursing” that will focus on addressing “systemic racism” in healthcare. “Systemic racism has for generations undermined the health of individuals and communities across America, a public health crisis that has made the pandemic even more deadly and destructive for people of color,” begins the announcement, posted to the university’s website . The statement goes on to say that because the university realizes nurses “hold major responsibility for the health of individuals and communities hit hard by historic racial inequity,” the school will be creating the “Center for Antiracism in Nursing.” “There is much work to do to become antiracist, not just as a society, but as a school, a university, a profession and a community,” said Azita Emami, the executive dean of the University of Washington School of Nursing. “As the cornerstone for healthcare and advocates for the … [Read more...] about U. of Washington Launches ‘Center for Antiracism in Nursing’

Washington pays respects to Bush as he lies in state at Capitol

· December 4, 2018 ·

WASHINGTON: Washington's political elite paid tribute to former US President George HW Bush as his body lay in state in the Capitol on Monday, evoking a bygone era of bipartisan civility in American politics. Before a grieving Bush family and with hands on hearts, members of Bush's Cabinet, lawmakers, the vice president and Supreme Court justices honoured the 41st president as his flag-draped casket entered the soaring Capitol Rotunda for the first official ceremony. Later in the evening, after the family and dignitaries had departed, President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump paid their respects, standing for two minutes before the casket. Trump then saluted Bush, a gesture belying the history of antipathy between the Republican president and the Bush family.
