China’s national library gears up for World Book Day

Video Player Close BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The National Library of China will hold various activities to celebrate the 26th World Book Day, which falls on April 23. A series of lectures, exhibitions and performances centering on the centenary of the Communist Party of China will be organized around the day, including an artistic event to tell Party history stories on April 18, according to the library. Also on offer will be a reading activity at the Summer Palace on World Book Day, making use of the charming and historic scenery to provide an immersive reading experience for members of the public. The Mallakhamb World Championship 2019 was organised at the Shree Samartha Vyayam Mandir in Mumbai's famed Shivaji Park area last weekend. 15 countries participated. About 2,000 people attended the sporting spectacle. Who knew there were Mallakhamb practitioners in Germany, the Czech republic, Italy, England, the US, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Brazil? Uday Deshpande, one of Mallakhamb's top coaches, winner of the Shiv Chhatrapati Lifetime Achievement Award -- Maharashtra's highest sports honour -- is the director and secretary general of the Vishwa Mallakhamb Federation. A fifth of the UK’s energy comes from nuclear but opposition to the power source persists. Environmentalists say the best argument against nuclear energy are Fukushima and Chernobyl . They say whilst the risks of accidents are tiny, the impact if something goes wrong can be devastating - and the fall-out over what to do with millions of tonnes of water used to cool the power station at Fukushima illustrates that global public confidence in nuclear energy still needs repair. There are always going to be bigger safety concerns about nuclear energy compared to say wind or solar. That coupled mainly with cost issues means environmental groups like Greenpeace are opposed to the building of new nuclear power stations. Beyond Sweatpants: Waking Up in a Post-COVID World

The other night, I had my first dream about life in a post-COVID world. It was nothing like I expected—me running on a beach, arms outstretched, and joyfully embracing the return to normal life. In fact, it was not a pleasant dream at all. In my dream, I left the house to go to an actual meeting with actual real live people. I was running late. And when I got to the meeting, I realized to my horror that I was wearing a version of the same basic ensemble I have been wearing to virtual work for the last year—made up and proper up top, old and riddled with holes (but oh so comfy) sweatpants on the bottom. Just like everyone else, I’m sure, I have been fantasizing about what life will look like when we finally bust through the grip of COVID.
