A 68-year-old Philadelphia area man allegedly apologized to investigators for a drinking problem after he was tied to 18 threatening and sexually charged left for a Pennsylvania Democratic congresswoman. The Montgomery County District Attorney's office, which represents Congresswoman Madeleine Dean's 4th District, charged Aldan, Pennsylvania, man Stephen Cilurso with harassment in connection with voicemails in which he claimed to represent white nationalist groups. Investigators say Cilurso left the 18 threatening voicemails over the course of five separate days in February. Cilurso allegedly railed against her support of former President Donald Trump 's second impeachment and made sexual remarks toward younger members of her family. "Oh yes, Ms. Dean we're just calling to see if we can get a, a very large monetary contribution from you," Cilurso allegedly said on one of the 18 voicemails. "This is the Proud Boys . Our numbers are growing every, every day. And it's … [Read more...] about Trump Supporter Claiming to Represent ‘Proud Boys’ Charged Over 18 Voicemails for Dem. Rep

Did Trump Ruin Polling, Too?
Trump speaks, and MAGA folk fall silent when the pollster calls. Photo: Isaac Brekken/Getty Images Last month, Nate Silver of FiveThirtyEight did an analysis of polling errors in the 2020 election cycle, and I discussed it along with related data at some length. Now comes an interesting report from a group of five major Democratic pollsters that confirms much of what Nate had to say, while offering one new theory I find fascinating: that like voting by mail, poll response in 2020 may have been significantly skewed by Donald Trump’s disinformation. To be clear, the pollsters issuing this report are campaign pollsters, not the media-sponsored outfits whose data FiveThirtyEight (and political writers) typically consumes. These are people whose findings guided, and apparently misguided, actual candidates; it says a lot for them that they are engaged in this very public self-critique, but it also shows that 2020 polling errors really were systemic, and really did (on … [Read more...] about Did Trump Ruin Polling, Too?
Renault to partly idle Spanish plants until end September over chip shortage
Renault has started negotiations with unions to extend the partial idling of three of its four factories in Spain until the end of September as a preemptive measure in case a global semiconductor shortage lingers. Carmakers around the world have been impacted by the shortage of chips used in engine management and driver-assistance systems, which come mainly from Asia, especially Taiwan. Renault had already partly idled its Spanish plants in response to the shortage, on the expectation that chip supply would return to normal in the second half of the year. It is now proposing further stoppages at factories in Palencia and Valladolid for a total of between 31 and 39 days, a company spokesman said on Tuesday, as a precautionary measure in case the shortage extends into the third quarter. That would involve putting up to 9,000 workers on furlough, he said. The actual idling will depend on future chip supplies. The UGT union said in a statement Renault intended to cease … [Read more...] about Renault to partly idle Spanish plants until end September over chip shortage
Ted Cruz, Other Republicans to Challenge Biden Administration’s Plans for Palestinian Refugee Aid
Republican Senator Ted Cruz quickly prepared to mobilize other lawmakers in his party against U.S. aid to Palestine on Wednesday, following a State Department announcement confirming its plans to resume a humanitarian assistance program. The State Department is coordinating the program with Congress , the U.S. Agency for International Development and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The U.N. agency primarily supports relief and development efforts for Palestinian refugees. Donald Trump eliminated federal funding for the UNRWA early in his presidency. Congressional Republicans such as Cruz have pushed back against the effort to resume aid under President Joe Biden 's administration. The Texas senator challenged the State Department's decision and urged officials to "halt these expenditures" in a drafted letter that he anticipated roughly a dozen of his Republican colleagues will sign, according to the Associated Press. "We call on you to halt these … [Read more...] about Ted Cruz, Other Republicans to Challenge Biden Administration’s Plans for Palestinian Refugee Aid
Florida Democrats Sound the Alarm After ‘Spanish-Language OAN’ Buys Miami Radio Station, Fires Liberal Host
Raul Martinez was the kind of well-connected radio host based in a swing state who got major interviews during the 2020 campaign, like then-candidate Joe Biden , as well as Susan Rice and Alejandro Mayorkas, who eventually joined the new administration. The former longtime Democratic mayor of Hialeah earned a "tells it like it is" reputation among his supporters for railing against corruption in Miami politics, and was a fan of giving nicknames to politicians he felt were doing a bad job, calling Governor Ron DeSantis , Ron D esastre , or disaster, for example. But for a Democratic Party that suffered brutal defeats in Florida in November, he was also like water in the desert, one of the very few Democratic voices on air, who in recent months could be heard during rush hour explaining the lack of evidence for Trump's lie that he won the election, talking about "anti-immigrant" forces within the Republican Party trying to stop reform, and giving people details on how to … [Read more...] about Florida Democrats Sound the Alarm After ‘Spanish-Language OAN’ Buys Miami Radio Station, Fires Liberal Host
