The new HBO mystery miniseries Mare of Easttown begins with establishing shots of its titular location in southeastern Pennsylvania. The sky is gray. The little houses, most of them built out of worn red brick, all sit on top of one another. Any paint in sight is faded and peeling. It is a depressing place, full of depressing people. When a newcomer tells Mare Sheehan herself ( Kate Winslet ) that the area seems OK to him, she replies, “Give it time.” You cannot accuse Mare of Easttown of false advertising, that’s for sure. The tone of the show is as dour as those early glimpses of its setting, to the point where it can be unnerving in the rare moments where someone briefly smiles or, somehow, some way, laughs. Round 1 will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on NBCSN ( livestream ) and Rounds 2-7 be Wednesday beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET on NHL Network. With so much about 2019-20 that didn’t go according to plan (but some that did – congratulations to the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning!) and so much still unknown about what we can expect out of a 2020-21 season, a draft now seems somewhat anticlimactic. But outside of the fact that hundreds of players and their families – not to mention your humble analyst – will not be gathered in one cavernous hockey arena to experience the event together, there is still a lot to be excited about as we seek to put this traumatizing year behind us and look to a brighter future. Monday, Fox News host Tucker Carlson responded to criticism from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) after the organization called for his firing over remarks Carlson made about “replacement” and the types of immigration policy supported by the modern Democratic Party. The FNC host noted the reactions his remarks also inspired from the “little gatekeepers on Twitter,” which he said turned out to be true in this case. However, as Carlson pointed out, the ADL also made a similar argument regarding Israel and the population growth of Palestine.
