After the first-instance trial of the city’s People’s Court on December 27, 2017, fourteen out of the 16 defendants appealed. The court sentenced Dang Hoang Thien, born in 1992, residing in HCM City, to 16 years in prison for his main role in making and planting petrol bombs at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCM City on April 22, 2017, and his involvement in setting fire to the warehouse of Bien Hoa city police in the southern province of Dong Nai on April 8, 2017. At Tan Son Nhat international airport (Source: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Transport recently reported to the Government on its plans and mechanisms to launch a project on upgrading the Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Accordingly, the ministry assigned the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to build Terminal T3, a runway, and a water drainage system outside the flight area. In terms of calling for public involvement in the project, the ministry will choose investors in the form of public-private partnership for 1.5-2 years so as to complete the project before 2022. Under the recently-announced decision on adjusting the planning of the airport, a total of 791ha is zoned off for upgrade. Once completed, it will meet the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) standards for a Level-4E airport and a military airport Level 1. If the proposal of Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to build the third terminal for Tan Son Nhat International Airport is approved, the construction of the airport will be started in the third quarter of 2020. ACV awaits the prime minister's approval for the third terminal of Tan Son Nhat International Airport ACV has submitted a document to the Ministry of Transport (MoT) proposing the prime minister to approve the investment planning for Tan Son Nhat’s third terminal. Accordingly, the third terminal, which covers an area of 100,000 square metres, will handle 20 million passengers per year. The project will have a total investment capital of VND11.65 trillion ($506.5 million), invested by ACV and will be recouped within 23 years. The airport customs force found three handguns, two daggers and a pair of handcuffs hidden in the luggage of the passenger, who hails from the southern province of Long An. The 48-year-old man arrived on flight NH833 from the US to Vietnam via Tokyo (Japan).
