The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday announced elections to the Assemblies of Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and West Bengal, with voting from March 27 till April 29 and counting on May 2. At a press conference, which he said would be his last before his term ends in April, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora said polling for Assam’s 126 constituencies would be held in three phases- March 27, April 1 and April 6. Elections in Kerala (140 seats), Tamil Nadu (234) and Puducherry (30) would be held in a single phase- on April 6. Kerala, TN, Puducherry to go to polls on April 6; 3 phase polling for Assam, 8-phase elections for Bengal West Bengal would see elections in eight phases, up from seven phases in the last elections, on March 27, April 1, April 6, April 10, April 17, April 22, April 26 and April 29. EOW Delhi arrests man for duping homebuyers of Rs 2.50 crore
NEW DELHI : A 46-year-old man was arrested from Tamil Nadu for allegedly duping homebuyers of Rs 2.50 crores by luring them to invest in a housing project in southwest Delhi's Dwarka area, police said on Thursday. K Ponniah, an ex-servicemen, was declared a proclaimed offender in 2018 after he fled to his native village in Tamil Nadu and did not join the probe related to this case despite issuance of several notices to him, they said. He was arrested on Tuesday from a lodge in Puddukottai district of Tamil Nadu by a team of Economic Offences Wing (EOW), police said. Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) O P Mishra said the complainants were induced by the accused to invest in his housing firm namely Defence Personnel Welfare Housing Organisation (DPWHO) for a project which was to come up in Poachanpur village in Dwarka sector 23. National Medical Commission will bring great transparency, says PM Modi
The government is transforming the entire medical education and healthcare sector and the National Medical Commission would bring great transparency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday. "Friends we are transforming the entire medical education and healthcare sector," he said addressing the 33rd convocation of the state-run Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University through video conferencing. The National Medical Commission would bring great transparency and also rationalise norms to set up new medical colleges, he noted. "It will also improve the quality and availability of human resources in this sector." During the last six years, MBBS seats increased by more than 30,000, which is a rise of more than 50 per cent from 2014. The number of Post Graduate seats increased by 24,000 which is a rise of around 80 per cent from 2014. In 2014, there were six AIIMS in the country.
