Civic Type R Battles Toyota GR Yaris, Supra For Drag Racing Crown

· April 16, 2021 ·

This is an eclectic bunch. Japan’s current crop of sports cars is an eclectic bunch. The Toyota Supra is a rear-wheel-drive menace, while the Honda Civic Type R carries the country’s Affordable Fun flag. The Toyota GR Yaris is a downright oddity with its all-wheel-drive and unique platform, but how do all three of these distinctly different machines compare? We have a new Top Gear YouTube video that answers that question. On paper, the Supra is the powerhouse king. It produces 339 horsepower (252 kilowatts) and 368 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters) of torque from its turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six. However, it’s the heaviest of the bunch while only powering the rear wheels. The Type R is the middle-child with its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine making 315 hp (235 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, which power the front wheels. The Yaris is the wildcard with all four wheels powered by its 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine that makes 260 hp (193 kW) and 265 lb-ft (360 … [Read more...] about Civic Type R Battles Toyota GR Yaris, Supra For Drag Racing Crown

Marathon: Kipchoge wants to run ‘beautiful race’ for the people at Olympic qualifier amid ‘tough times’

· April 16, 2021 ·

SINGAPORE - Eliud Kipchoge has three Olympic medals, holds the marathon world record and has won eight out of 10 World Marathon Majors races he has competed in. He is the first man to run a marathon under two hours, a feat he completed in the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in Vienna in 2019. But the greatest reward he has gained from the sport is perseverance, said the reigning Olympic marathon champion on Friday (April 16). He said: "Running marathons has taught me that if you believe and have faith in yourself, you can be successful. "It has informed me that if you set a goal and believe in that goal, you can go on without any problems. So it's like life. "It's built me and told me this is the wrong route and right route and above all, it taught me that life has ups and downs." Kipchoge, 36, was speaking at a virtual press conference hosted by professional outfit the NN Running Team ahead of the NN Mission Marathon on April 18. The event, a Tokyo Olympics qualifier, is a … [Read more...] about Marathon: Kipchoge wants to run ‘beautiful race’ for the people at Olympic qualifier amid ‘tough times’

Lotus E-R9 Endurance Racer Previews Wild All-Electric Racing Future

· February 16, 2021 ·

It’d look at home on the Le Mans starting grid. Lotus is slowly getting its affairs in order as the company contemplates its transition to all-electric powertrains. The last combustion engine-powered Lotus will debut this summer as the company prepares to launch the electric Evija, too. However, Lotus is looking far into the future, imagining what an endurance racer could look like at the 2030 24 Hours of Le Mans, and creating the stunning Lotus E-R9 concept. For now, it’s simply a design study and technology showcase with a fighter jet-style canopy and a delta-wing shape painted in black and gold. It features active aerodynamics, morphine body panels, and vertically mounted control surfaces that assist in high-speed cornering. Drivers can change the car’s shape on the fly, or the car can do it automatically with an array of sensors, allowing the car to achieve minimum drag on the straight and maximum downforce through the corners.
