The 2019 Subaru STI S209 may just look like a modified Subaru sedan on the outside, but it’s technically a product of STI, Subaru’s motorsports division. When STI went to homologate the car to our crash and emissions regulations separately from Subaru, it faced one setback: the U.S. government couldn’t wrap its head around what exactly the car was supposed to be. Advertisement The STI S209 is a heavily modified version of the 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA, which itself was a modified version of the regular 2018 Subaru WRX STI. It’s the latest in a series of what Subaru and its motorsports division, STI, refer to as “S-cars,” which are modified performance versions of Subaru’s street cars. Until now, S-cars have never been exported and were only ever sold in the Japanese market, the most recent being the S208 back in 2017. Because of the heavy modifications, those cars were always deemed too difficult and costly to certify for sale in the … [Read more...] about Why The 2019 Subaru STI S209 Is A Pain To Even Sell In America

G4S scrambles to raise £600m by selling shares and business units
G4S, the private security firm that failed to provide enough guards for the London 2012 Olympics, is scrambling to raise £600m by selling shares and business units to cut its debts, which have ballooned to £2bn since its public dressing down by MPs. The company, which also stands accused of defrauding the government by charging for tagging offenders who had returned to prison or even died, is hoping to raise £350m by selling fresh shares and up to £250m by disposing of non-core businesses. Ashley Almanza, G4S's new chief executive, admitted that "balance sheet repair is required" in order to "reduce the risk of a credit downgrade", which would cost the company an extra £25m to £30m a year. Almanza took over from Nick Buckles, who quit in June under intense political pressure in the wake of the Olympics shambles, and has begun a strategic review of the business. As well as the Olympics and tagging fiascos, G4S guards were earlier this year found to have … [Read more...] about G4S scrambles to raise £600m by selling shares and business units

Apple iPad education event: start time and live blog
Here we are, kids, hours away from Apple’s big education event where we’re expecting to learn about the company’s strategy to reclaim dominance in classrooms, crucial for the incubation of the next generation of consumers. Apple’s expected to announce a low-cost iPad (an ePad?), probably with Pencil stylus support, in addition to new software and services needed by educators and students alike. It’s an important event for Apple, which has fallen behind both Microsoft and Google, particularly in US school districts (today’s event is being held at a Chicago high school). Google has emerged to reign supreme thanks to cheap Chromebooks and, as of yesterday, an entirely new class of devices: Chrome OS tablets like the $329 Tab 10 from Acer. Chromebooks sell for less than $300, whereas the cheapest iPad currently sells for $329 but without Pencil or Smart Keyboard support. While cheaper MacBooks had been rumored, we’re not expecting any news on that … [Read more...] about Apple iPad education event: start time and live blog
Amazon, eBay to stop selling inclined sleepers linked to infant deaths
Amazon and eBay said Wednesday they planned to stop selling infant inclined sleepers, popular products that federal safety regulators recently warned the public to stop using after they were linked to more than 70 accidental deaths. In less than a year, inclined sleepers have gone from a product loved by many parents for getting their babies to sleep to a product reviled after a string of safety recalls and research suggesting it was inherently dangerous. The product's downfall started in April with the recall of millions of Fisher-Price Rock 'n Plays. That was followed by recalls of inclined sleepers made by Kids II and Dorel Juvenile Group. But several companies continued to offer the bassinet-like products, which allow babies to sleep at an incline of up to 30 degrees. But last month the Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should stop using all inclined sleepers because of the risk of accidental suffocation. The warning came two weeks after the release of a CPSC-funded … [Read more...] about Amazon, eBay to stop selling inclined sleepers linked to infant deaths
