Amazon and eBay said Wednesday they planned to stop selling infant inclined sleepers, popular products that federal safety regulators recently warned the public to stop using after they were linked to more than 70 accidental deaths. In less than a year, inclined sleepers have gone from a product loved by many parents for getting their babies to sleep to a product reviled after a string of safety recalls and research suggesting it was inherently dangerous. The product's downfall started in April with the recall of millions of Fisher-Price Rock 'n Plays. That was followed by recalls of inclined sleepers made by Kids II and Dorel Juvenile Group. But several companies continued to offer the bassinet-like products, which allow babies to sleep at an incline of up to 30 degrees. But last month the Consumer Product Safety Commission said consumers should stop using all inclined sleepers because of the risk of accidental suffocation. The warning came two weeks after the release of a CPSC-funded … [Read more...] about Amazon, eBay to stop selling inclined sleepers linked to infant deaths

When you’re shopping on Amazon, you might have seen the words “Fulfilled by Amazon” next to some of the things you buy. You hopefully won’t notice anything different about the purchase experience, but you could run into problems. Amazon the Marketplace Amazon isn’t just an online store—and it hasn’t been for some time. It’s a marketplace, like eBay or Alibaba; it just hides that fact better. Over 80% of the products sold through Amazon are bought not from Amazon but from an Amazon Marketplace seller who is paying Amazon to list their product. The numbers are even crazier when you look at the products listed on Amazon, not just sold: of the 350 million-plus products available, Amazon only sell 12 million of them directly—not including books, media, and wine—the rest are sold by Marketplace sellers. Even if you’ve never noticed you were buying from a Marketplace seller before, the odds are you have. Fulfilled by Amazon The … [Read more...] about What Does “Fulfilled by Amazon” Mean?
By Sean Fallon - December 5, 2019 10:16 am EST Share 0 Comments 0 In years past, Amazon has run a holiday deal that offers $5 off physical books when you spend $20. Photo: Joe Darrow; Filippo Bacci; Michael Kovac/Getty Images; Getty Images/Getty Images In early January, employees of the We Company, formerly known as WeWork, gathered in Los Angeles for its annual summit. As with many of the company’s events, it was more tent revival than corporate off-site. The Red Hot Chili Peppers performed. Jaden Smith and Adam Rippon spoke. Diddy and Ashton Kutcher announced the winners of the annual Creator Awards. Adam Neumann, one of WeWork’s founders, took the stage as he typically does at such gatherings. Neumann is six-foot-five with long dark hair and the easy charm of a man worth several (theoretical) billions of dollars who still manages to surf regularly and used to skateboard around the office. He is known for making bombastic pronouncements, like this one at an all-company event last year: “There are 150 million orphans in the world. We want to solve this problem and give them a new family: the WeWork family.” In … [Read more...] about The I in We
