If you want to access and read the iPhone SMS backup file, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll walk you through how to access this text message file, which contains all of an iPhones text messages, SMS, MMS, and iMessages, and also show you how to read the files contents. Set and Use Custom SMS Text Tones for iPhone

Update: The iPhone text tone can be changed to anything after iOS 5. Tired of hearing the same text message alert tone on your iPhone despite who the incoming SMS arrives from? Would you like to set a custom SMS tone to individual contacts? In either case you’ll be excited to learn you can do both of these with the newer iPhone iOS updates. To set a custom text tone for a specific contact: Go into the contact and tap on ‘Edit’ Look underneath ringtone you’ll see “text tone”, tap on that Select the new sound to play for that users sms tone, it can be adjusted from the default tri-tone to other alert tones I use custom ringtones all the time for contacts so being able to set a custom text tone is a great feature. iPhone Group Text Messaging – Send 100 People an SMS for the Price of 1

You don’t need to download any apps to send group text messages with your iPhone. Hidden away in iOS 4 is the ability to send group text messages, now this may not seem that exciting by default but here’s why it’s great: using group messaging, you can send 100 people a text message but it only counts as ONE sent text! How to enable group text messaging on the iPhone Tap on “Settings” Select “Messages” Tap the On switch next to “Group Messaging” If recipients also enable group messaging, then everyone can have a massive group chat together at the expense of only one text message sent, regardless of the amount of users! Android Desktop Notifier Alerts you of SMS, Phone Calls, & More

How’d you like to get notifications from your Android phone onto your desktop Mac or Windows PC? This cool little utility will notify you of incoming SMS’s, phone calls, and battery notifications, right on your desktop. The app installs on your Android and also on your desktop PC and communicates through Bluetooth, it’s fully multi-platform compatible so it will work in Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux. You can grab the Android Desktop Notifier tool at Google code . This is a really great addition to the desktop computers of Android phone users. I came across this cool utility on LifeHacker a bit ago and figured it was worth reposting here. We generally cover the iPhone but I realize that many people have Androids too, if I couldn’t have an iPhone I probably would as well. Show SMS Character Count on the iPhone

You can have your iPhone display the character count of text messages by enabling an option within the settings, here’s how to do this in iOS: Tap on Settings to launch into the app Locate and tap on Messages Tap the slider next to ‘Character Count’ to the ON position This is the same on all versions of iOS for iPhone, though it can look a little different. This is useful if you like to send SMS notifications to Twitter, or you’re just concerned about the general length of your texts. While you’re in the message settings, you’ll notice the option to turn on iPhone Group Messaging , which effectively lets you text up to 100 people for the price of one SMS.
