French strikes: How could they affect UK travellers?

British travellers face cancellations, delays and disruption getting to and from France during the next five days due to a general strike in the country.Industrial action over planned pension reforms is expected to cause problems for trains, airlines and French roads.Eurostar said 90 services will not run, while EasyJet has cancelled 70 flights and BA has cancelled more than a dozen.The Foreign Office has said journeys to the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Germany could also be affected.It has urged travellers to check with operators before beginning their journey.How are flights affected?Some air traffic controllers and Air France workers have said they will take part in the strike - in a bid to cause disruption to air travel. It's time to break out the hot water bottles tonight as temperatures are forecast to plummet to zero in parts of England. Temperatures will be chilliest across the south and east of England overnight after a foggy day. Exeter is set to feel the worst of the bite, with a forecast for more fog and freezing conditions by midnight. The city will feel the lowest temperatures across the UK tonight before returning to milder temperatures by lunchtime. The mercury in the rest of the UK will also plummet to the single digits overnight, as weather warnings remain in force for much of Scotland over Thursday and Friday. The Met Office has forecast a weakening band of rain moving southeast tonight from northwest England and Wales. UK weather forecast: ‘Coldest week of season’ as ‘freezing fog’ to cause travel chaos

Britain will shiver through 'one of the coldest weeks of the year' as it is hit by freezing fog and sub-zero conditions. Temperatures are expected to plunge to as low as -6C overnight in some parts, which could result in travel chaos for road, rail and air travellers. Met Office forecasters have put a yellow warning in place for tonight and early tomorrow over the threat of potentially dangerous 'freezing fog'. It reads: “Fog or freezing fog is likely to lead to some travel disruption on Monday night and Tuesday morning.” Weather experts say the condition will result in “slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible” as well as “a chance of delays or cancellations to flights”. This warning is in effect between 00.15am and 11am on Thursday across parts of the south-east. Air passengers could see lengthy delays to their journeys as airports put cold weather plans in place. UK weather forecast: Britain to be battered by 65mph winds and heavy rain

Raging gales of up to 65mph and heavy rain will batter parts of Britain today - before the downpours sweep across the rest of the country. The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for north-west Scotland that will face the brunt of bad weather coming in from the west. While much of the rest of the UK will face grey but more settled conditions on Thursday, a band of rain will bring more rain on Friday. But the worst of the weather will be reserved for Scotland with up to 100mm - nearly a month's worth - set to fall. The rain will hit with three flood warnings in place for England and 17 flood alerts, with a further 10 alerts for Scotland.
