MANCHESTER: Hardly a week goes by without record signing Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United caught up in a swirl of speculation. It is becoming an unedifying Old Trafford sideshow that is hardly helping the cause of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. This week, ahead of United's calamitous defeat against RB Leipzig that dumped them out of the Champions League, Pogba's agent Mino Raiola said the French midfielder was unhappy at the club and should move in the next transfer window. Solskjaer hit back at Raiola, saying Pogba was focused on doing his best for the team. The reality is, though, that the 27-year-old, re-signed from Juventus in 2016 for £89 million (US$118 million), has started only five of United's Premier League games this season and was only a substitute in Tuesday's (Dec 8) crucial clash with Leipzig. Former United striker Dimitar Berbatov said it is clear that Solskjaer lacks confidence in Pogba and suggests it is time to part ways with a player who has never … [Read more...] about Football: Time for United and Pogba to part ways, says Berbatov

Air freight prices ‘outrageous’ as COVID-19 shots rolled out: WHO expert
GENEVA: Some carriers are seeking "outrageous" prices to fly dry ice and other medical equipment in the pre-holiday rush, but a capacity squeeze should ease in 2021 when the roll-out of COVID-19 vaccines is expected, the World Health Organization's logistics chief said on Tuesday (Dec 8). Distribution of vaccines to low- and middle-income countries will be tricky, due to grounded passenger air services in some places, and may rely on charters, Paul Molinaro, WHO chief of operations support and logistics, told Reuters. Price inflation has been a growing feature in air freight, with "across the board increases especially since November," Molinaro said. He cited a price quote just received for a dry ice shipment, needed to cool some lab re-agents, which is around 20 times the norm. "I just had a quote from a cargo (company) - a big one that shall remain nameless - Dallas (Texas) USA to Sierra Leone, Freetown - at sort of US$105 a kilo, which is outrageous actually," he said. Football: Pogba should leave United in next transfer window, says agent
LONDON: France midfielder Paul Pogba should leave Manchester United during the next transfer window before his contract ends in June 22, his agent was quoted as saying on Monday. "It's best to speak clearly, look ahead and not lose time looking for someone to blame - Paul is unhappy at Manchester United, he can't express himself as he would like and the way we expect him to," Mino Raiola said in an interview with Tuttosport to be published on Tuesday. "He needs to change teams, he needs to change air. "I think the best solution for both parties would be to sell him in the next transfer market." Pogba, who joined from Juventus in 2016, has featured in eight Premier League matches this season, starting only five as he still struggles to fulfil his promise at the club. … [Read more...] about Football: Pogba should leave United in next transfer window, says agent

England to make support payment available through COVID trace app
LONDON: England's COVID test and trace system is making a 500 pound (US$665) support payment available for people who self-isolate after receiving a notification via its app, it said on Thursday. The money was already available for people told to self-isolate by contact tracers via phone, email or test message, but not previously through the app due to its anonymous nature. Any individual who receives a self-isolation alert in the app were now able to register their details to receive the payment, the service said. Strong protection for user privacy was a key requirement set by Apple and Google when they made the technology available to develop COVID-19 contact tracing apps. Individual users are not required to enter personal details when they register to use the app, meaning automatically generated notification requests to self-isolate cannot be enforced. A user will remain anonymous after receiving a notification if they do not wish to claim the money, the service … [Read more...] about England to make support payment available through COVID trace app
