Rikki Neave was found strangled to death in Peterborough in 1994 Specialist prosecutors have taken over the investigation into a man suspected of the infamous historic murder of schoolboy Rikki Neave. James Watson, 35, attempted to flee the country after being released on bail over the murder of the six-year-old, but was extradited and has been in UK custody since. The schoolboy was found strangled to death on the same estate in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire, where Watson grew up in 1994. Watson was already on a lifetime prison licence for burning down a police station when he was arrested and questioned on suspicion of his murder in April last year. The Crown Prosecution Service has now referred the case to The Treasury Counsel - a team of prosecutors which handles the serious and complex cases. Father-of-one Watson was extradited from Portugal and has remained in custody after he fled the UK in a campervan, as he remained on police bail over the killing. Albania elects prosecutor general as part of judicial reforms
TIRANA (Reuters) - Albania’s parliament elected Olsian Çela as prosecutor general on Thursday as part of judicial reforms sought by the West that are intended to kick out corrupt judges. The European Union has told Albania the reforms must remain a top priority if it wants to join the bloc and the judiciary should have teeth in the fight against corruption and crime. In a process monitored by European and U.S. experts, 800 Albanian judges and prosecutors will be vetted in order to flush out corrupt judicial officials and end impunity for politicians. So far, most Supreme and Constitutional Court judges have been fired, prompting many Albanians to say they were right to view the judiciary as corrupt. However, the opposition says the government is trying to exert undue control over the reformed judicial system. “We welcome the election by the parliament of Mr. Olsian Çela as General Prosecutor,” said Luigi Soreca, the EU’s ambassador to Albania. … [Read more...] about Albania elects prosecutor general as part of judicial reforms

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear President Donald Trump's appeals in three separate cases to prevent his financial records, including tax returns, being handed over to Democratic-led House of Representatives committees and a New York prosecutor. The justices are poised to issue decisions in June, amid Trump's bid for a second term. Rulings against the president could result in the quick release of personal financial information that Trump has sought strenuously to keep private. Arguments will take place in late March. The Republican president is trying to block subpoenas for bank records, tax returns or other materials demanded by various Democratic-led House of Representatives committees investigating corruption or foreign meddling in the U.S. elections process. The House probes are not part of the Democratic-led impeachment proceedings against Trump over his dealings with Ukraine. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, a Democrat, is … [Read more...] about Supreme Court WILL hear blockbuster case on Donald Trump’s refusal to release tax returns and bank records to Congress and Stormy Daniels probe prosecutors
