ECP nullifies Daska NA-75 by-polling, orders re-elections

· February 25, 2021 ·

ISLAMABAD: The by-election results have been nullified and re-polling will take place in the entire constituency on March 18, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said Thursday in its order. The PML-N had requested the election commission to hold polling again in the Daska constituency as the February 19 election was marred by controversies and clashes. The ECP had withheld the results after 20 presiding officers in the constituency went missing for several hours and top officials of the district administration were unavailable to the commission to answer its queries. In the short order released today, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja said after the arguments heard and record perused, the ECP has come to the conclusion that “the election in the subject constituency has not been conducted honestly, justly, fairly and in a transparent manner”. “From the perusal of available record produced by the parties, the Returning Officer, as well as collected by the … [Read more...] about ECP nullifies Daska NA-75 by-polling, orders re-elections

The bloc's anti-fraud agency OLAF said around 900 million vaccines have been pitched to several countries for €12.7bn (£11bn). HC rules against aided school teachers contesting Assembly polls

· February 24, 2021 ·

A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday barred aided school teachers and non-teaching staff from contesting Assembly elections. The Bench made the ruling while allowing a few public interest litigations seeking to prevent aided school teachers from contesting Assembly elections. The petitioners contended that though government teachers were barred from participating in political activities, including contesting Assembly elections, there was no such prohibition on aided school teachers. Allowing the petitions, the Bench held unconstitutional section 2 (IV) of the Legislative Assembly (Removal of Disqualifications) Act, 1951, which said that employees of non-governmental educational institutions would not be disqualified for being chosen as a member of the Assembly by reason only of his/her holding any office in any non-governmental educational institutions. The court made it clear that the declaration would be applied prospectively. Right to Education Act The … [Read more...] about HC rules against aided school teachers contesting Assembly polls
