Cyber security company Darktrace will on Monday fire the starting gun on a £3bn London flotation - crystallising a stake worth tens of millions of pounds for its 38-year-old chief executive. Sky News has learnt that Darktrace's board plans to issue an expected "intention to float" announcement before the stock market opens on Monday morning. The listing will provide another acid test of investors' appetite to embrace technology company flotations in London, following the disastrous debut of Deliveroo, the food delivery app, earlier this month. Darktrace's float is likely to value the company at between £2.5bn and £3bn, with chief executive Poppy Gustafsson's shareholding likely to be valued in the region of £20m. The filing of its registration documents will mean that Darktrace's shares will begin conditional trading at around the end of this month. Post Office chief Read delivers plan to share profits with postmasters
The government should explore plans to turn the Post Office into a profit-sharing business, allowing postmasters to participate in the future financial success of Britain’s largest retail network, its chief executive has said. Sky News has learnt that Nick Read, who has run the Post Office since the autumn of 2019, told colleagues last week that he wants ministers to sanction what would effectively amount to its partial mutualisation once its finances are in appropriate shape. The ambition, which was outlined by Mr Read in a speech to his senior leadership team on Friday, would potentially enable thousands of postmasters across the UK to receive a financial stake in the Post Office by the middle of the decade. "As we look towards the next Comprehensive Spending Review, I intend to work with government on the various means by which we could deliver on a longer-term aspiration to facilitate profit-sharing between Post Office Limited and postmasters when circumstances permit," … [Read more...] about Post Office chief Read delivers plan to share profits with postmasters
A new documentary highlights the visionary behind space settlement
A new movie brings to life the legacy of a physicist who has played an influential—but largely unheralded—role in shaping the vision of space settlement. The documentary The High Frontier: The Untold Story of Gerard K. O'Neill takes its name from the 1977 book The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space authored by Princeton University physicist Gerard K. O'Neill. The movie will be released on April 17, and it's an excellent film for those seeking to better understand the future humans could have in outer space. O'Neill popularized the idea of not just settling space, but of doing so in free space rather than on the surface of other planets or moons. His ideas spread through the space-enthusiast community at a time when NASA was about to debut its space shuttle, which first flew in 1981. NASA had sold the vehicle as offering frequent, low-cost access to space. It was the kind of transportation system that allowed visionaries like O'Neill to think about what humans could do in … [Read more...] about A new documentary highlights the visionary behind space settlement
Dr. Fauci Says It’s ‘Very Likely’ Safe for Vaccinated Family Members to Hug
Dr. Anthony Fauci , the president's chief medical adviser, has said it is "very likely" safe for two family members who have been vaccinated to hug each other. Fauci, who also serves as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, made the comment in response to a question from MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell on Thursday. "So, for example, if you're vaccinated and you have a member of your family vaccinated, someone that's not lived with you, can you actually be with them without a mask? Can I sit down and give them a hug and things like that? And the answer is very likely, of course, you can," Fauci said. Fauci made a distinction between what vaccinated people could do within a particular "pod" and what they could do in public settings. "It's going to really depend, if you are vaccinated, and you are with someone who's vaccinated, the things that you can do are much, much more liberal in the sense of pulling back on stringent public health measures, … [Read more...] about Dr. Fauci Says It’s ‘Very Likely’ Safe for Vaccinated Family Members to Hug
Speculation of ‘narcissist’ Duterte being sick is part of admin’s ‘script’ – Trillanes
Duterte on motorbike. Image from Sen. Bong Go MANILA, Philippines — Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Sunday said he is “not buying” the rumor that President Rodrigo Duterte is sick, saying that the “narcissist” President is doing this on purpose to get attention. “I’m not buying this info that Duterte is sick. He’s been doing that for the past 5 years,” said Trillanes in a statement. “Mawawala kunyare (pretend to disappear) then they’d float their own rumor. Tapos lalabas (then appear) like a conquering hero and burn all those who went for the ride. He’s a narcissist, remember? He craves for the attention,” he added. Trillanes said that instead of getting hooked into the administration’s “script,” Filipinos should demand that the President gets to work “at this time of severe national crisis.” “Napakatamad na, wala pang malasakit” Trillanes said. (Not only is he lazy, but he is also indifferent.) It has already been two weeks since President Duterte last … [Read more...] about Speculation of ‘narcissist’ Duterte being sick is part of admin’s ‘script’ – Trillanes
