Analysis: Republicans ‘Becoming the Party of Blue-Collar Americans’

· February 25, 2021 ·

Republicans are “becoming the party of blue-collar Americans” so long as the party continues with a populist-nationalist agenda, new analysis reveals. Overall, an NBC News survey finds, Republicans have gained 12 percentage points with working class Americans between 2010 and 2020 while losing one percentage point with Americans who hold white-collar jobs. At the same time, Democrats have lost eight percentage points with blue-collar Americans and gained just one percent with white-collar Americans. For Republicans, since 2020, the total of white Americans in blue-collar jobs who now vote for the GOP jumped from 45 percent in 2010 to 57 percent in 2020. The increase of support for Republicans with working class Americans has cut across racial lines. For example, whereas just 23 percent of blue-collar Hispanic Americans supported Republicans in 2010, today about 36 percent support Republicans. Working class black Americans, likewise, support Republicans at a rate of about 12 … [Read more...] about Analysis: Republicans ‘Becoming the Party of Blue-Collar Americans’

Americans’ job satisfaction falls to record low

· January 5, 2010 ·

WASHINGTON (AP) — We can’t get no job satisfaction. Even Americans who are lucky enough to have work in this economy are becoming more unhappy with their jobs, according to a new survey that found only 45 percent of Americans are satisfied with their work. That was the lowest level ever recorded by the Conference Board research group in more than 22 years of studying the issue. In 2008, 49 percent of those surveyed reported satisfaction with their jobs. The drop in workers’ happiness can be partly blamed on the worst recession since the 1930s, which made it difficult for some people to find challenging and suitable jobs. But worker dissatisfaction has been on the rise for more than two decades. “It says something troubling about work in America. It is not about the business cycle or one grumpy generation,” says Linda Barrington, managing director of human capital at the Conference Board, who helped write the report, which was released Tuesday. Workers have grown … [Read more...] about Americans’ job satisfaction falls to record low

Colorado governor creates task force on American Indian mascots

· October 6, 2015 ·

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed an executive order Tuesday creating a commission to discuss American Indian high school mascots. The group would include tribes, local community members and state agencies to find common ground, said Ernest House Jr., executive director of the Colorado Office of Indian Affairs. In the last legislative session, a bill carried by state Reps. Joe Salazar, D-Thornton, and Jovan Melton, D-Aurora, that would have required tribal approval for public schools to continue using American Indian mascots passed in the Democrat-led state House but was killed by a Republican-led Senate committee. “When Rep. Melton and I addressed this issue last legislative session, we met with members of the American Indian community who were concerned that their heritage was being disrespected,” Salazar said Tuesday. “With the governor’s apology for the Sand Creek Massacre last year, and this important step today, we have made small but significant steps as a state in … [Read more...] about Colorado governor creates task force on American Indian mascots

USA! Americans Take Manual Trans For Porsche 911 GT3 At Super High Rate

· February 25, 2021 ·

It's nearly double the rate compared to the rest of the world. It's no secret that a vast majority of drivers prefer automatic transmissions over three-pedal manuals. Even in the high-performance realm, dual-clutch gearboxes with automatic or electrically-operated manual gear changes have become the norm. Such systems can change gears faster than any human could hope to achieve, but still, there's a visceral connection for driving purists that comes from moving mechanical components by hand. Perhaps it should be no surprise that a visceral vehicle like the Porsche 911 GT3 is well-suited for old-school manual shifting. The previous-generation 991.2 GT3 saw a six-speed manual return to the analog supercar, and boy did buyers respond. According to Porsche , 40 percent of those GT3 sales around the world featured the old-school stick versus the dual-clutch PDK, but that's not the big news. When you focus on just 991.2 GT3 sales in the US, the manual take-rate jumps to 70 … [Read more...] about USA! Americans Take Manual Trans For Porsche 911 GT3 At Super High Rate

Colorado lawmakers want to force schools to get rid of American Indian mascots — or pay up

· February 22, 2021 ·

Colorado schools with mascots like “Savages” and “Reds” would have to change the derogatory American Indian symbols or face monthly fines under a bill just introduced in the Colorado legislature. At least 25 schools have such mascots. Many others have already made the switch to something less offensive, but others have not changed despite recommendations, said bill sponsor and Wheat Ridge Democrat Sen. Jessie Danielson. Her proposal would ban American Indian mascots in public schools, including colleges and universities, and give them until June, 1, 2022, to remove the mascots. If they don’t, they’d face a monthly fine of $25,000. “It’s long overdue,” Glenn Morris of the Colorado chapter of the American Indian Movement said. “There’s just no logical justification for them continuing it and it’s just a matter of privilege getting in the way of doing the right thing.” Schools like Arapahoe High School and Strasburg High School that have existing agreements about their mascots … [Read more...] about Colorado lawmakers want to force schools to get rid of American Indian mascots — or pay up
