Fund to finance small businesses (28-03-2008) HA NOI — SME Securities Co and South Korea’s Daewoo Capital Co will create a fund of an estimated US$50 million to finance projects by small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in infrastructure, real estate development, mining, and other sectors, under a strategic co-operation agreement signed yesterday in Ha Noi. "The fund will finance SMEs with feasible projects which cannot access traditional bank financing," said Daewoo Capital general director Sung Ki-dong. Wholesale, retail trade attractive to small businesses Tu Hoang By Tu Hoang - The Saigon Times Daily HANOI - Wholesale and retail trade accounted for 39.8% of total active micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Vietnam as shown in a report released by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) last week. The proportions were 20.5% for the service sector and 15.7% for the manufacturing sector, according to the Asia SME Finance Monitor 2014 report covering 20 developing countries in Asia. The report said Vietnam had had a total of 359,794 MSMEs as of the end of 2013, making up 96.4% of total enterprises in the country. MSMEs employed 5.1 million workers, or 46.8% of Vietnam’s workforce. Privately owned firms account for 97.2% of the total in Vietnam, foreign-invested companies for 2.7% and state-owned enterprises the remainder.
