· July 30, 2019 ·

HONG KONG: Hundreds of protesters disrupted services on Hong Kong's Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system on Tuesday (Jul 30), as part of a civil disobedience effort in the ongoing crisis gripping the territory. Protesters in the station put up flyers and held up a train by blocking train doors. "We don't know how long we are going to stay here, we don't have a leader, as you can see this is a mass movement now," said Sharon, a 21-year-old masked protester who declined to give her full name. "It's not our intention to inconvenience people, but we have to make the authorities understand why we protest. We will continue with this as long as need." Others chanted "Liberate Hong Kong" and "Revolution of our time". Zoe Tay as Romeo Tan’s mum? Just one of the challenges for the cast of All Is Well

· August 19, 2019 ·

An actor’s job is not an easy one. Often, a lot is asked of them. And one of the hardest things to deal with must be being cast as the mother of someone 20 years older than your own son. That’s what Zoe Tay, 51, does in All Is Well, Mediacorp’s upcoming Mandarin drama. She and Chen Hanwei play the parents of the character portrayed by Romeo Tan, who’s 34. “It was like, ‘Huh? Romeo – my kid?’” Tay recounted. And as a further twist of the knife, when she asked if special-effects makeup would be used to make her look older, the answer was no. Still, Ah Jie, every inch the star, handled it in a cavalier fashion. “It was a bit weird in the beginning, but you have to convince yourself,” she shrugged. “I didn’t have many scenes with Romeo, so it was fine.” In future, she quipped, “I’ll be Elvin’s mum; Desmond’s mum … everyone’s mum.” All Is Well is a Taiwan-Singapore co-production that’s set to be a blockbuster: Set in both locations, two storylines will air over two channels – … [Read more...] about Zoe Tay as Romeo Tan’s mum? China warns foreign forces to ‘stop conniving and interfering’ in Hong Kong affairs

· August 15, 2019 ·

LONDON: China accused unidentified foreign forces on Thursday (Aug 15) of fomenting violent protests in Hong Kong, warning them that their "conniving" efforts had been noticed and that they would end up damaging themselves. "Foreign forces must stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs," Chinese Ambassador to Britain Liu Xiaoming told reporters in London. "Stop conniving in violent offences - they should not misjudge the situation and go down the wrong path otherwise they will lift the stone only to drop it on their own feet." He added: "Evidence shows the situation would not have deteriorated so much had it not been for the interference and incitement of foreign forces. Hong Kong is part of China. No foreign country should interfere in Hong Kong’s internal affairs."
