COPENHAGEN, Denmark – Norway saw a 19% drop in marriages in 2020 compared to the previous year, which had already seen the lowest figure since 1927. Norway’s statistics agency said Monday that the pandemic and measures to counter it led to the fall. In 2020, 16,200 weddings were performed. On top of that, “the decline of 3,000 marriages from 2019 to 2020 is unparalleled and is the largest decline from one year to another since 1919,” said Ane Margrete Toemmeraas of Statistics Norway. “Figures show that the corona measures from March 12, 2020 caused many to postpone their wedding,” Toemmeraas said. Researchers at UC Davis are investigating whether virtual reality can be used to help kids with ADHD cope in the non-virtual world. If effective, the treatment could point the way to an alternative to medication. Three World Cup speedskating events in Canada cancelled due to COVID-19
LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND—A World Cup speedskating event in Calgary and short-track competitions in Montreal and Laval, Que., have been cancelled because of COVID-19. The International Skating Union announced Monday that the first World Cup speedskating events of the 2020-21 season, including one in Calgary from Dec. 11 to 13, have been cancelled. The research found that France scored the most searches for ad-blocking software per 100,000 internet users, ahead of Sweden and Denmark. France tops the list of countries with the greatest interest in ad-blockers. The study, published by the VPN provider Surfshark, found an average 579 searches for ad-blocking software per 100,000 French internet users, the highest in the world, followed by Sweden and Denmark. Europe is a particular hotspot for online ad-haters. Lithuania, Greece, Belgium and Norway all score over 400 ad-blocker searches per 100,000 internet users. Americans, on the other hand, seem more tolerant of online advertising, with the US coming 23rd in the global ranking with 300 searches per 100,000 internet users.
