MS Tales: When Dravid blasted Dhoni…

· April 11, 2021 ·

Photograph: Tom Shaw/Getty Images Rahul Dravid was not a man who had temper issues, but once Mahendra Singh Dhoni was at the receiving end of his angry outburst, recalled Virender Sehwag, batting great and now raconteur of repute. The context was a recent commercial featuring an angry Dravid, which has taken the social media world by storm. When Sehwag was asked whether Dravid ever got angry, he said it happened once and it was directed to none other than Dhoni during a ODI game in Pakistan, back in 2006. "I have seen Rahul Dravid get angry. When we were in Pakistan, and back then M S Dhoni was a newcomer. Dhoni played a shot and got caught at point," Sehwag recollected on Cricbuzz . "Dravid was very angry with MS Dhoni. 'That's the way you play? You should finish the game'. I was myself taken aback by Dravid's English outburst … [Read more...] about MS Tales: When Dravid blasted Dhoni…

Joe Biden: Infrastructure Meeting with Republicans Not Just ‘Window Dressing’

· April 12, 2021 ·

President Joe Biden defended Monday his bi-partisan meeting at the White House on infrastructure, despite Republicans dismissing the event as more empty “window dressing.” Sens. Roger Wicker (R-MS) and Deb Fischer (R-NB) met with Biden, as well as Reps. Don Young (R-AK) and Garret Graves (R-LA). Four Congressional Democrats also joined the meeting. When reporters asked about Republican criticism of the meeting, Biden replied, “I’m not big on window dressing, if you’ve observed.” But at this point, Biden remains unwilling to publicly offer any major compromise on his multi-trillion-dollar spending plan proposed as “infrastructure.” “I’m prepared to negotiate as to how — the extent of the — my infrastructure project, as well as how we pay for it,” Biden said before the meeting began. Biden acknowledged Republicans had disputed whether the majority of the spending in the bill was actually infrastructure. “It’s going to get down to what we call infrastructure,” he said, … [Read more...] about Joe Biden: Infrastructure Meeting with Republicans Not Just ‘Window Dressing’

Judge sentences Dynel Lane to 100 years for attack

· April 29, 2016 ·

BOULDER — Aurora Wilkins should be nearing her first birthday. Her parents should be watching her take her first steps. Her mother should know what her daughter’s smile looks like. Instead, Michelle Wilkins stood before a judge on Friday and asked for the woman who cut Aurora from her womb to receive the harshest punishment possible. Chief District Judge Maria Berkenkotter sentenced Dynel Lane to 100 years in prison for beating Wilkins unconscious and cutting her 7-month-old fetus from her body. The details that weighed heaviest in Berkenkotter’s decision weren’t the things that Lane did. They were the things that Michelle Wilkins never got to do. District Attorney Stan Garnett’s voice shook when he described the first words Wilkins never got to hear. Aurora’s parents will never get to scoop her off a grocery store floor during a tantrum or hang her artwork on the refrigerator, Berkenkotter said. “They won’t get to watch as she decides who she is or what she wants to do … [Read more...] about Judge sentences Dynel Lane to 100 years for attack

COVID-19: Top lawyer will have ‘carte blanche’ with review into firm David Cameron lobbied for, says Boris Johnson

· April 13, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has promised a top lawyer will be given "carte blanche to ask anybody whatever he needs" as part of a review into the activities of a collapsed finance firm David Cameron lobbied for. The prime minister has asked Nigel Boardman to look into the role of Australian financier Lex Greensill , his business, Greensill Capital, and its involvement with the government. It follows weeks of allegations about the links between Mr Greensill, Mr Cameron and government ministers and officials. What is the lobbying scandal and why is David Cameron involved? Mr Cameron, who was employed by Mr Greensill in 2018 after he had left Downing Street, has been revealed to have approached serving ministers about the involvement of Greensill Capital in government-backed financial support schemes during the coronavirus crisis. This included text messages sent to Chancellor Rishi Sunak. London Bridge terrorist dines with victim Saskia Jones at brunch minutes before killing her

· April 12, 2021 ·

LONDON Bridge terrorist Usman Khan is pictured two seats from victim Saskia Jones as they enjoy brunch in a banquet hall — shortly before his knife rampage. The image of the suited and booted killer chatting with Ms Jones , 23, was shown yesterday as the inquest into the atrocity opened. Khan was also caught on camera standing beneath a chandelier in the background of the prisoner rehabilitation event as drinks and canapes were served. Det Chief Insp Dan Brown told the hearing: “We see Khan talking quite animatedly. We don’t know what the content of that conversation was.” Khan, 28, had gone to the event at Fishmonger’s Hall armed with knives and was intent on murder. Other images shown to jurors include a narwhal tusk used as a weapon against Khan and images of his other victim, Jack Merritt , 25, arriving for the event. The inquest heard that Khan took three knives, with a crude Allah symbol etched into the blades, to the gathering. He had also … [Read more...] about London Bridge terrorist dines with victim Saskia Jones at brunch minutes before killing her
