Early data suggests a coronavirus variant first detected in California may be more transmissible, possibly cause more severe disease, and could have an impact on vaccine efficacy. Study authors are awaiting approval from public health departments for publishing of a preprint, though Dr. Charles Chiu, co-study author and professor of laboratory medicine with the University of California San Francisco, shared and elaborated on the findings to Fox News. "I am worried, concerned but not panicking about this," Chiu said. "This is something that needs to be further investigated and I really think that at this point we don’t know enough to recommend any changes to the standard public health measures that we use to prevent infection." How Pornography Use Affects Couples Sexual Health

· January 11, 2021 ·

According to a 2018 Gallup poll , pornography use is seen as morally acceptable among a rising percentage of Americans, moving from 30 percent approval in 2011 to 43 percent by 2018. This trend follows overall movement toward more liberal beliefs across the boards. When it comes to pornography, the biggest changes were seen among unmarried people and adult males under age 49. Factors such as religion and political orientation affect porn acceptance, with a far smaller percentage of conservative and religious people finding porn morally OK. Despite growing acceptance, there is serious concern that pornography causes real harm : exploitation and risk to performers, damage to the capacity for healthy relationship and interfering with relationship and sexual satisfaction, addictive potential, illegal activity supporting human trafficking and child abuse , and contribution to the general societal trend to objectify and present unrealistic expectations for physical attributes as … [Read more...] about How Pornography Use Affects Couples Sexual Health

Australia: Flesh-eating ulcer spreads to Melbourne

· February 24, 2021 ·

In Australia, a flesh-eating disease affecting parts of coastal Victoria has spread to inland Melbourne for the first time, with several cases reported in the suburbs of Essendon, Moonee Ponds and Brunswick West. Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said on Tuesday that the risk of acquiring the ulcer in those areas was considered low, but “this is the first non-coastal area in Victoria to be recognised as a potential area of risk”. “A genetic analysis of bacteria isolated from these people as part of a research project suggests a common source of infection in the area,” Professor Sutton said in a health advisory issued to medical practitioners and residents on Tuesday. “Lesions typically present as a slowly developing painless nodule or papule which can initially be mistaken for an insect bite. They can progress to a destructive skin ulcer, which is known as Buruli ulcer or Bairnsdale ulcer.” READ MORE: New Zealand's Climate Change Commission blocked by Facebook … [Read more...] about Australia: Flesh-eating ulcer spreads to Melbourne

New Covid variant ‘spreading rapidly’ in New York City and could BEAT vaccines, researchers warn

· February 25, 2021 ·

A NEW Covid-19 variant is "spreading rapidly" in New York City and could beat vaccines, researchers warn. The new variant, called B.1.526, is spreading rapidly in the Big Apple and researchers fear it may carry a mutation that may weaken the effectiveness of vaccines. The new variant first appeared in samples collected in November 2020, and by February it accounted for about one in four viral sequences appearing in a database shared by scientists. One study, which was posted on Tuesday, was published by a group at Caltech , the other by researchers at Columbia University, which is not public yet. Researchers at Caltech discovered the rise of the B.1.526 variant by scanning for mutations in thousands of viral genetic sequences in a database called GISAID. However, neither study has been published in a scientific journal, but the results suggest that the variant's spread is real, experts said. “There was a pattern that was recurring, and a group of isolates … [Read more...] about New Covid variant ‘spreading rapidly’ in New York City and could BEAT vaccines, researchers warn
