Q. Where can I buy pies? Oh, I know that some of the grocery stores, like Byerly’s or Kowalski’s, have pies available, but usually only a small selection. Apple and cherry pies are popular, but where are the banana cream, coconut cream or peach pies? A. If you are looking for whole pies, you can order them ahead of time from Buttered Tin (237 E. Seventh St., St. Paul; 651-224-2300; thebutteredtin.com) — you can even do it online! Salty Tart (289 E. Fifth St., St. Paul; 612-874-9206; saltytart.com) does pie pop-ups around the holidays, but doesn’t offer them on a regular basis from the bakery. That said, you can always ask them to make you one. There’s a spot on their website for special requests. They also serve slices of Salty Tart pie at Octo Fishbar, which is in Market House Collaborative, adjacent to the St. Paul Salty Tart. The best coconut cream pie I have ever tasted was from Revival (525 Selby Ave., St. Paul; 651-340-2355; revivalfriedchicken.com) … [Read more...] about Ask the food writers: Where to buy dessert for lucky co-workers and more

Her husband burst out of the basement and shot Regan in the head with a .22 caliber rifle during the act, which the couple had plotted after making a "pact to kill off … [Read more...] about Documentary: Hobart woman may have fed dismembered lover to neighbors at barbecue, killed up to nine people
Nearly every week from March through November, Madison Metro Transit planner Katie Sellner goes about the task of changing bus routes and making sure riders and drivers are aware of those changes. There can be up to 15 route changes at any one time, depending on the number of special events and road construction projects in the city, Sellner said.“What becomes more complicated or more challenging is when there are several different events happening close to each other and/or even throughout the city,” Sellner said. “Drivers are detouring multiple times if they go across town. It’s just all over the place.” Rallies, street fairs, charity races and farmers’ markets can all close streets and result in bus route changes. On Memorial Day weekend alone, five running and walking events, two farmers’ markets and a political rally will affect the way Madison residents use the bus system, streets and parks.According to Metro spokesman Mick Rusch, … [Read more...] about Does Madison have festival fatigue?
