World leaders thank PM Narendra Modi as India sends COVID-19 vaccines to 47 countries

New Delhi: India has supplied over 4.64 crore made-in-India COVID-19 vaccine doses to 47 countries as of Thursday (March 4). The outreach has won New Delhi a lot of goodwill from the global community. Of these, 71.25 lakh doses have been supplied as gifts, while over 3.93 crore have been sold commercially. The list of countries that received vaccines includes both developed and developing countries, from Africa to the Caribbean to ASEAN nations and to the neighbourhood as well. Canada has received 5 lakh vaccine doses till Wednesday. The Pune-based Serum Institute of India will be sending 1.5 million more doses of the Covishield vaccine. In a tweet, India's envoy to Canada Ajay Bisaria said, "India is proud to support Canada's vaccination programme as a strategic partner." England lost Jonny Bairstow and Stokes in the session after both batsmen looked settled at the crease. Post the lunch break, India decided to start with R Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj. The latter struck in the fourth over of the session when he pinged Bairstow in front with a delivery that came in and beat the batsman for pace. Bairstow did go for the review but replays confirmed the ball was clipping the top of the stumps. England all out for 205 in fourth test against India

AHMEDABAD, India: England, after electing to bat, were all out for 205 in their first innings on the opening day of the fourth and final test against India in Ahmedabad on Thursday. Ben Stokes top scored for the tourists with a fighting 55, while a recalled Dan Lawrence made 46. Axar Patel was the pick of the Indian bowlers claiming 4-68 while fellow spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and quick Mohammed Siraj shared five wickets between them. India, who lead the series 2-1, need a draw to book their place in the final of the inaugural World Test Championship against New Zealand in June. What Coronavirus? BCCI, CSA keep India Vs South Africa ODI in schedule

CSA says it undertook risk-assessment process; to send a doctor along with team. Narendra Modi recently said something that may have amessage to Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). “Experts across the world have advised to reduce mass gatherings to avoid the spread of COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus . Hence, this year I have decided not to participate in any Holi Milan programme,” the Prime Minister said in a Twitter comment recently. A One-day International (ODI) series against South Africa could draw heavy crowds. But the BCCI said it is on. Even Cricket South Africa (CSA) said there is no threat to the three-match ODI series the first of which is in Dharamsala on March 12. Arun Singh Dhumal even as the CSA released a statement saying it has taken into all factors into consideration before deciding to go ahead with the series. Killings along India-Bangladesh border because of crime: Jaishankar

Criminal activities are responsible for the killings along the India-Bangladesh border, according to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. At a joint press conference with his Bangladesh counterpart, A.K. Abdul Momen, in Dhaka on Thursday, Mr. Jaishankar said India was partnering with the neighbouring country in economic and health-related recovery in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. “Every death is regrettable but we also have to ask ourselves why is there a problem, and the problem is because of crime. So our shared objective should be a no crime-no death border and I am sure if we can get it right, we can address this problem effectively,” said Mr. Jaishankar, adding that several of the reported deaths [of Bangladesh nationals] “are fairly deep inside India”.
