LG refuted rumours that it is looking to sell its Haiphong smartphone plant At the meeting with leaders of the Ministry of Planning and Investment's Foreign Investment Agency on April 14, Jung Hai Jin, general director of LG Electronics Vietnam Haiphong in Haiphong's Trang Due Industrial Zone confirmed that the company is not looking for a buyer for its Haiphong smartphone factory. He said that it would restructure the major business lines of LG that would have no impact on LG Electronics' operation in Haiphong and the employment of workers there. He reiterated that LG is not looking to sell its factory for $90 million. The LG Electronics factory in Haiphong was invested $1.5 billion to manufacture smartphones, TVs, air conditioners, vacuum cleaners, and washing machines. DETROIT: General Motors Co and South Korean joint-venture partner LG Energy Solution on Friday said they will build a second U.S. battery cell manufacturing plant, revealing plans for a $2.3 billion factory in Spring Hill, Tennessee. The planned 2.8 million-square-foot plant, scheduled to open in late 2023, will employ 1,300 people and is expected to have a production capacity similar to the companies' Ultium Cells joint-venture plant in Lordstown, Ohio, of about 35 gigawatt-hours as they move to respond to the growing demand in the electric vehicle market. "The addition of our second all-new Ultium battery cell plant in the U.S. with our joint venture partner LG Energy Solution is another major step in our transition to an all-electric future," GM Chief Executive Mary Barra said in a statement. LG Electronics has said it has formed ties with Dutch quantum algorithm developer Qu & Co to conduct joint research on quantum computing technology in a move to boost competitiveness in future technologies. Under the research agreement, the two companies will develop quantum computing technology for multiphysic simulations over the next three years. Multiphysics refer to systems that involve simultaneously occurring multiple physical phenomena. Multiphysics simulations are used to analyze and verify such systems. LG said current computers are limited in analyzing complex systems, and expects the substantially faster quantum computing technology to process them and help resolve industrial problems that account for multiple physical phenomena, reports Yonhap news agency.
