Coronavirus: Leisure travel may not be possible this year, says Lawrence Wong

· July 18, 2020 ·

Singaporeans are unlikely to be able to travel for leisure this year, though essential business travel will be possible. At a virtual press conference yesterday, National Development Minister Lawrence Wong said: "Our overall advisory, it remains for everyone in Singapore, is not to travel, to avoid all travel." He added that even though the virus situation is dynamic and constantly changing, the multi-ministry task force tackling Covid-19 - which he co-chairs - does not see things improving any time soon. "Looking at the situation, the Covid-19 infection around the world is unlikely to go away. At the end of the year, it will continue to be with us, even till next year. "So, it is unlikely that we will see improvement in the situation in the near term, which means that our travel advisory position is unlikely to change in the near term as well," he said. Shanghai to establish proton therapy center for children

· March 5, 2021 ·

Video Player Close SHANGHAI, March 5 (Xinhua) -- A Shanghai proton therapy center is expected to take the lead in providing treatment for Chinese children with cancer in about two years. The center will be jointly established by the Children's Hospital of Fudan University, Shanghai Fosun Healthcare (Group) Co., Ltd., and Mevion Medical Technology Group Limited, under an agreement signed this week. About 22,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in China. Surgery and chemotherapy are the main treatments. Proton therapy is a new type of radiation therapy that uses high-energy beams to treat tumors. Protons from hydrogen atoms are extracted and accelerated up to 70 percent of the speed of light. Its energy is concentrated directly on the tumors with minimal harm to surrounding healthy tissue. It causes fewer side effects on brain and spine growth in children compared with traditional treatments, said Dong Kuiran, a senior oncologist at the children's hospital. … [Read more...] about Shanghai to establish proton therapy center for children

Businesses say the Bay Area is a sure bet

· March 5, 2021 ·

Chinese cultural and tourism companies are moving to gain a strong foothold in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, betting that the 11-city cluster will drive a new round of growth in the sectors with its preferential policies and massive market scale. Online travel agency Ctrip said it is working with some Bay Area city governments on developing tourism products and enhancing the quality of local tourism. For example, it is studying with Zhuhai's Hengqin New Area the possibility of launching a "City Pass", a kind of prepaid ticket booklet with which tourists can visit sites in Zhuhai and the neighboring city of Macao. Ctrip is also cooperating with Guangzhou's Nansha district on an offline tourist consultation center. The online travel services provider said it will be responsible for operation, marketing and staff training of the facility, which is expected to come into service this year. "The cultural and tourism guidelines issued by the government in late … [Read more...] about Businesses say the Bay Area is a sure bet
