Indian fans enraged at Dale Steyn’s preference for PSL over IPL

· March 2, 2021 ·

Indian cricket fans have been left enraged after Quetta Gladiators' fast bowler Dale Steyn  has shown preference over the Pakistan Super League over the Indian Premier League. In an interview with Cricket Pakista n, Steyn said that the reason why he opted out of IPL this year is because there is  "so much emphasis" on earning money that "sometimes, somewhere down the line, cricket gets forgotten". He went on to say that he has found that playing in other leagues is "slightly more rewarding". “When you come to like a PSL or the Sri Lankan Premier League, for that matter, there is an importance on the cricket." His comments have caused quite a stir among Indian cricket fans who have taken to Twitter to express their outrage. One fan shared a meme on behalf of "every IPL fan" which said: " Aye tu chup re. Tereko kuch maloom nai. (Oh shut up, you. You know nothing)." "If anyone has problems with IPL, don't bark, we Indians are happy to see our stars here," wrote one … [Read more...] about Indian fans enraged at Dale Steyn’s preference for PSL over IPL

· March 13, 2020 ·

MUMBAI: The start of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament has been postponed until April 15 as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) said on Friday. It had been scheduled to begin on March 29. The Indian government said late on Wednesday it would cancel almost all visas issued for travel to India until April 15 to try to prevent the spread of the virus, and the country's sports secretary said on Thursday the national cricket team's coming matches should be played in empty stadiums. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation," the board said in a statement. "During this time of absolute caution and surveillance, we would like to call upon all our members and affiliates to desist from taking part in any cricket related gatherings and other transversal events that will include the congregation of large numbers of people and/or up to 100 people," CSA acting chief executive Jacques Faul said. Cricket: Staying home is like ‘nirvana’ for Australian players, says coach

· March 26, 2020 ·

MELBOURNE: Staying home during the national lockdown to contain the coronavirus is like "nirvana" for Australian cricketers as they generally have to live out of a suitcase, head coach Justin Langer has said. Australian cricket is in its off-season and has been largely insulated from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, which has suspended all of the country's major sporting competitions that run during the autumn and winter. Some Australian players are signed with teams in the Indian Premier League but the lucrative T20 tournament has been postponed at least until mid-April and may end up being scrapped like many other tournaments that have succumbed to the pandemic. “The truth is for me personally and for all the players, this is like nirvana in the fact we’re home with our families, we sleep in our own beds, we eat home cooked dinners and we can still work in one degree or another from home," Langer told reporters on Thursday. Government containment measures to shut … [Read more...] about Cricket: Staying home is like ‘nirvana’ for Australian players, says coach

Swara Bhasker pens a note on father Uday Bhaskar’s 70th birthday: Dad, you taught me to be fearless, resilient & confident

· March 2, 2021 ·

By Swara Bhasker Dearest Dad , Since I know well, your disapproval of birthday gifts; and you know well my love for giving them; I thought on the occasion of your 70th birthday I’d strike a balance. Here is a gift you cannot object to – a glimpse of you as a father , from your child’s eyes. You were always an unusual man. And you have certainly been an unusual father. And not simply because you were often unknowingly defying stereotypes. To date after your morning bath; you, a Telugu speaker often exclaim in Punjabi loudly, “ Mainu te maaf kar dey Rabbaa!” or sometimes loudly “Hey Allah, mere maalik, reham karo !” This coupled with your daily Hindu puja and gusty invocations to our many Gods with Telugu and Sanskrit hymns and chants, left Abu and me thoroughly confused as children and for long unaware that Rabbaa, Allah, and Venkateshwara belonged to three separate religions. More specifically you have been an unusual father for an Indian girl child. I have a … [Read more...] about Swara Bhasker pens a note on father Uday Bhaskar’s 70th birthday: Dad, you taught me to be fearless, resilient & confident
