Coronavirus: Durex enjoys ‘double-digit’ revenue growth in Reckitt Benckiser sales boom
The maker of top cleaning brands including Dettol and Cillit Bang, Reckitt Benckiser (RB), has reported a recovery in condom sales thanks to relaxed coronavirus restrictions. The FTSE 100 company, which has been among the few winners in the COVID-19 crisis to date thanks to its household hygiene and healthcare products, reported a 9.5% lift in net revenue to £3.5bn during its third quarter. RB said that was mainly driven by continued strong demand for disinfectants - with sales of Dettol-branded sprays, wipes and liquid up more than 50% on the same July-September period last year. Like-for-like sales were almost 20% higher in the company's hygiene business and 12.6% up in its health division, which includes Durex condoms and Mucinex cold medicine. RB had pointed to a sharp drop in demand for condoms during the spring virus lockdowns across Europe. Retirement Isn’t Always a Walk in the Park
Thalia theater. Source: Kroger, Yozef on PICRYL/Public Domain About 10 years ago, my patient Gene retired as a professor of Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism at a local university. Most people don’t know what dramaturgy is, or what the dramaturge (its practitioner) actually does, this was partly why he left. “I was the intellectual in the Theater Department,” he told me, “but that made me obsolete.” Gene was definitely old-school: bow-tied, tweedy, always clutching a script whose author dreamed of summer stock at Williamstown, the Guthrie, or the Hartford Stage. The dramaturge provides these places—and many others—with learned critiques of dramatic literature. What are the play’s themes, its context, its characters’ psychological dilemmas? Is it well-structured? How is the play situated historically? Is it important? He also has to understand the business of theater. Could a play be produced within budget? Would it appeal to a likely audience? Who’d be good in the leading … [Read more...] about Retirement Isn’t Always a Walk in the Park
Georgia overpowers sluggish LSU 91-78, snapping the Tigers’ three-game winning streak
ATHENS, Ga. — After putting together two of its more complete games this season in the past two outings, the LSU basketball team was seeking to continue its run of good play of late against Georgia. Instead, it was just the opposite — a complete and total breakdown for LSU in a 91-78 setback to Georgia in Stegeman Coliseum. “Well, it was an embarrassing performance … we got whipped every way we could get whipped,” LSU coach Will Wade said. “All of our poor habits came out. They gave us a bunch of resistance, so give Georgia a bunch of credit.” But much of what they did, the sluggish Tigers did to themselves — especially in the closing minutes of the first half. After playing on near-even terms with the Bulldogs for 14½ minutes, it all started to get away from the Tigers when they were outscored 21-6 over the final 5:21 of the first half and trailed 45-29 at the break. LSU (14-7, 9-5 Southeastern Conference) was powerless to stop the onslaught once Georgia (14-9, 7-9 SEC) … [Read more...] about Georgia overpowers sluggish LSU 91-78, snapping the Tigers’ three-game winning streak
