Local movie competes at Berlin International Film Festival 2021
The film, which has been co-produced by the country, Singapore, France, Thailand, and Germany, will compete against 11 others in the Encounters catergory. “Vi” tells a story of Bassley, a Nigerian football player who experiences many jobs as he struggles to earn a living in Ho Chi Minh City in the hope of one day being reunited with his wife and children. The movie’s participation in Berlinale comes after the film also won the “Most Potential Project” award during the Singapore International Film Festival in 2020. This year sees the event held across two stages, from March 1 to March 5 and from June 9 to June 20. During the initial stage, the film festival took place in an online format with the participation of 170 movies competing across 11 categories. Kannada film director, Siddu Poornachandra is on cloud nine. His latest film, Daari Yavudayya Vaikuntake, is yet to release byt has already created ripples at various film festivals. Singapore’s A Land Imagined wins best film at 29th Singapore International Film Festival
Singapore film A Land Imagined’s victory streak continues, as it bags Best Film at this year’s Singapore International Film Festival’s Silver Screen Awards, which was held Saturday night (Dec 8) at the Capitol Theatre. It also made history as the first Singapore film to win in the feature film category of the festival’s awards. Director Yeo Siew Hua’s mystery thriller film about the disappearance of a migrant construction worker at a land reclamation site was unanimously chosen by a jury panel, besting seven other films from across Asia. The victory on home ground caps off an impressive year for the film, which made history in August by being the first Singapore film to win the Golden Leopard at the prestigious Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.
