Photographs: Amit Dave/Reuters There was finally some joy among the gloom as fans thronged the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera for the second Test between India and England. The N M stadium took over from the Melbourne Cricket Ground as the world's biggest cricket stadium on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, and Team India made sure their fans left a happy lot even though the game didn't even last two days. Fans, who were deprived of live cricketing action this past year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, made sure to flock to the stadium in large numbers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 55,000 fans were allowed to attend the match, but there was no shortage of passion as fans came in early through the gates to watch the cricketers in action. Indian can win against odds in all conditions, a mark of all great teams, says Hayden
Indian team has all the markings of a great team as it can not only fight it out but win against the odds in all conditions, former Australia opener Matthew Hayden said. India had recently defeated Australia 2-1 Down Under in a four-Test series. Virat Kohli’s men then took an unassailable 2-1 lead over England following the 10-wicket win in the third Test at Ahmedabad on Thursday. “India have shown that they are a modern team who can not only fight it out but win against the odds in all conditions. This is a mark of all the great teams in history. The ability to win both at home and away,” Hayden told PTI in an e-mail interaction. The wickets in Chennai and Ahmedabad came in for sharp criticism during the second and third Test of the ongoing series. Asked if too much was being made about the pitches especially when they were spin-friendly, Hayden said: “Provided the wickets are not unfairly groomed, reducing the game to only one type of cricket, I don’t have a problem with it … [Read more...] about Indian can win against odds in all conditions, a mark of all great teams, says Hayden
India vs England 3rd Test: Will India be docked 3 points, Joe Root says ICC should decide
The third Test between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium was one of the shortest in the history of Test cricket, finishing well within two days in Ahmedabad with Virat Kohli’s side emerging victorious by 10 wickets. They are now at the top of the World Test Championships (WTC) table with 490 points but the International Cricket Council (ICC) can still deduct three points from their tally if they deem the pitch in Ahmedabad to be ‘unfit’ for Test cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) rules say that if a pitch is rated poor then the home team would be docked three points. “A poor pitch is one that does not even allow an even contest between bat and ball, either by favouring batters too much, and not giving the bowlers (seam and spin) from either side sufficient opportunity to take wickets, or by favouring the bowlers too much (seam or spin), and not giving the batters from either team the opportunity to make runs,” ICC rules state. The rules further … [Read more...] about India vs England 3rd Test: Will India be docked 3 points, Joe Root says ICC should decide
Motera Pitch Controversy: Opinions Polarised as British Media Reacts After England’s Crushing Defeat to India
British media seems to be a divided house as they reacted to England’s dramatic 10-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the third Test on Thursday. The contest didn’t even last two days with spinners accounting for 28 of the 30 wickets to have fallen at the Narendra Modi Stadium which was hosting its first international match since undergoing renovation. The defeat meant England were knocked out from the race for ICC World Test Championship final with India now needing just a draw to qualify. Australia are still in contention to join New Zealand in the summit clash but that depends on India’s defeat in the fourth and final Test of the series set to be played at the same venue from March 4. The manner in which the batting of both the teams folded left to a sharp criticism from several former players including the likes of Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Michael Vaughan among others with the pitch branded “not ideal” for Test cricket. The Guardian though chose to focus on England’s … [Read more...] about Motera Pitch Controversy: Opinions Polarised as British Media Reacts After England’s Crushing Defeat to India
