A woman seemed recovered from COVID-19. Then both her lungs collapsed.
Cases of collapsed lung in COVID-19 patients have been reported before, but mostly in hospitalized patients. A study of about 6,500 hospitalized COVID-19 patients in the U.K., published in September 2020 in The European Respiratory Journal, found that about 1% of those individuals experienced pneumothorax. Of the 60 patients described in the study as having a collapsed lung, most had received some type of ventilation support, but one-third had not.
