Microsoft now testing Chromium-powered Edge on Xbox

· March 8, 2021 ·

Xbox console testing has begun for the new Chromium version of Edge, Microsoft's updated internet browser. This browser has had positive reviews on PC, and should provide support for Chromium-powered services such as Google Stadia - though we'll wait to see how it runs first (thanks, The Verge ). Microsoft could also explore this method of browser-based game streaming to bring its own xCloud service to Xbox consoles. In-browser testing has already begun to get the xCloud catalogue on Apple iPhones . Currently, the new Edge Chromium browser is only available to Xbox Insider testers in the Alpha Skip-Ahead group, the first to get new features. Access then trickles down to the larger Insider groups fairly quickly as early bugs are removed. Microsoft is set to withdraw support for its older, original version Edge on PCs this week, as it shifts its development completely onto the new Chromium version. Anyone still using the old version of Edge on Windows platforms after 13th … [Read more...] about Microsoft now testing Chromium-powered Edge on Xbox

This Valheim world generator helps you discover the perfect seed

· March 8, 2021 ·

Valheim 's world, at least the first time around, is a mystery. An uncharted map full of possibilities and dangers. But if you've been around these parts a few times already and just want to cut to the chase, a new fan-made tool will let you map-out your perfect world before ever stepping foot in it. The simply-named Valheim World Generator , created by wd40bomber7 (spotted by PCGamesN ), is a nifty little web tool for scouting out your ideal world before ever firing up Valheim. Enter a new seed (or select a random one), and the site will fire up an overview of the world in its entirety. A sidebar lets you fiddle with how detailed you want your world to be, letting you toggle between a full terrain, biome-only, and whether you want to see locations for bosses, shipwrecks, traders, tombs and such. Never mind spying out new worlds—if you've got an existing world but want to track down an elusive trader, plug in an existing world seed and get yourself some directions. If … [Read more...] about This Valheim world generator helps you discover the perfect seed

Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect

· March 8, 2021 ·

Source: Egor Kamelev, Pexels free download. Last year essay I posted an essay called Some Truths About the Fascinating Lives of Wasps published in New Scientist by Richard Jones called "Not so Waspish," with the subtitle "They are one of the least-loved animals, but wasps deserve our affection. It's time for a rebranding." The online version is  titled " Wasps may benefit us as much as bees. Could we learn to love them? " with the subtitle "We love to hate wasps, but they pollinate flowers, kill off pests and their venom might even help us treat cancer." 1 I learned a lot about wasps from Jones' essay and the references he provides, and wanted to learn more about these misunderstood insects. So, I was pleased to read a book called Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect by Eric R. Eaton, a writer, editor, and consultant who has worked as an entomologist for many institutions. 2 Here's what he had to say about his highly informative and … [Read more...] about Wasps: The Astonishing Diversity of a Misunderstood Insect

Changing Your Story: How to Live a Happy Life

· March 7, 2021 ·

Some people just do not seem to be able to stop themselves from re-initiating a conflict, or having the last word, or leaving a difficult interaction with a loved one in a loud and tumultuous exit. Other people just go numb, do not know what to say, and become non-responsive in an argument. After the dust settles, I often hear people exclaim, “That’s just how I am,” or “that’s just me,” or “I just can’t seem to help myself, I doubt if I’ll ever be able to change.” When people say this, the first thing I ask is, “Who or what does the word ‘I’ refer to in those statements?” “Who or what is the “I” that cannot change?” The answer to this question is pivotal to what any given person will be willing to do to initiate a change process in their own life. For change to happen, you need to know who or what you are actually trying to change. Try answering this question (say it out loud or write it down): what are you? If you answered this question with, “I am a woman, man, … [Read more...] about Changing Your Story: How to Live a Happy Life

How We Learn to Be Afraid

· October 12, 2020 ·

Source: Suzy Hazelwood/Pxhere As Halloween approaches, many of us have witches, ghosts, and goblins on the mind. Scary movies are running back to back on television stations, and storefronts are plastered with posters of jack-o-lanterns and skeletons. For some, this is an exciting time of year, a time when we can relish in the thrill of being afraid. But for others, creepy skulls aren’t so appealing, and the idea of the Headless Horseman evokes horror instead of fun. Why do some of us go out to celebrate the holiday of fear while others just stay shuttered at home? First, contrary to popular belief, fear isn’t something we're born with, it's something we develop over time. In fact, babies don’t demonstrate fear for the first time until around 8 to 12 months of age, and it’s usually in response to new people or events, particularly strangers. Importantly, not all babies react to strangers with fear, and even the ones who do, don’t react with fear in all situations—context … [Read more...] about How We Learn to Be Afraid
