According to the embassy, tourism has recently become one of New Zealand’s most important industries. The number of Vietnamese visitors to New Zealand has remained small while over 30,000 New Zealanders visit Vietnam a year. The Hanoitimes - How to boost tourism connectivity among Mekong Delta provinces with the technical support of an EU-funded environmental programme was discussed at a high-level meeting in southern Kien Giang province on October 18. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism said the provinces of Can Tho, An Giang and Kien Giang have been identified as a key tourism development region of the country under the overall strategy for tourism development by 2020 with a vision for 2030. According to the EU-funded programme entitled “Environmental and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development”, these provinces should more closely co-ordinate in devising action plans, encourage businesses to become involved in cooperation and improve the role of tourism local associations. The three provinces signed a cooperative agreement to fully tap tourism potential as a contribution to ensuring sustainable green growth in the region. Spring Festival to Promote Tourism With the theme "Meeting on the pink lotus land," the gathering of people from many beautiful national cultural identities at the Spring Festival 2011 in Cao Lanh City, Dong Thap province created great excitement for local residents and visitors. “It is an outstanding event to promote local tourism and attract investors in 2011,” said Mr Nguyen Huu Dung, Chairman of Cao Lanh City’s People’s Committee, in an interview with Vietnam Business Forum reporter Giang Tu. For the past many years, craft villages with their traditional products have attracted visitors to Hoi An. The conservation and development of craft villages such as Kim Bong which specializes in making wood products, Thanh Ha with its ceramic products and Tra Que which specializes in growing vegetables, along with other craft villages with products such as clothing and lantern have significantly contributed to Hoi An's efforts to promote tourism. The Hoi An Culture and Sports Center has built the Hoi An Handicraft Workshop at 9 Nguyen Thai Hoc Road which displays the products of 12 Hoi An's traditional craft villages.
