Start of Indian Premier League Twenty20 postponed to April 15

· March 13, 2020 ·

MUMBAI: The start of the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament has been postponed until April 15 as a precautionary measure against the spread of the coronavirus, the Indian cricket board (BCCI) said on Friday. It had been scheduled to begin on March 29. The Indian government said late on Wednesday it would cancel almost all visas issued for travel to India until April 15 to try to prevent the spread of the virus, and the country's sports secretary said on Thursday the national cricket team's coming matches should be played in empty stadiums. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India has decided to suspend IPL 2020 till 15th April 2020, as a precautionary measure against the ongoing Novel Corona Virus (COVID-19) situation," the board said in a statement. "The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing … [Read more...] about Start of Indian Premier League Twenty20 postponed to April 15

Cricket: Staying home is like ‘nirvana’ for Australian players, says coach

· March 26, 2020 ·

MELBOURNE: Staying home during the national lockdown to contain the coronavirus is like "nirvana" for Australian cricketers as they generally have to live out of a suitcase, head coach Justin Langer has said. Australian cricket is in its off-season and has been largely insulated from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak, which has suspended all of the country's major sporting competitions that run during the autumn and winter. Some Australian players are signed with teams in the Indian Premier League but the lucrative T20 tournament has been postponed at least until mid-April and may end up being scrapped like many other tournaments that have succumbed to the pandemic. “The truth is for me personally and for all the players, this is like nirvana in the fact we’re home with our families, we sleep in our own beds, we eat home cooked dinners and we can still work in one degree or another from home," Langer told reporters on Thursday. Government containment measures to shut … [Read more...] about Cricket: Staying home is like ‘nirvana’ for Australian players, says coach

Cricket kind of gets forgotten in IPL; PSL, LPL more rewarding: Steyn

· February 2, 2021 ·

IPL VS OTHER T20 LEAGUES by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet "When you come to the PSL or the LPL, there's an importance on the cricket." © BCCI South African speedster Dale Steyn has said that the financial aspect of the Indian Premier League, the world's most lucrative T20 league, steers the focus off of cricket and he finds the likes of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Lankan Premier League (LPL) "slightly more rewarding". Steyn, who is currently plying his trade for the Quetta Gladiators franchise in the PSL, told Cricket Pakistan that the duration of the IPL was also a factor in him opting out of this season as he wanted some more time to himself. "I wanted to take a bit more time off. I found that playing in those other leagues was slightly more rewarding as a player," Steyn said. "I think when you go to the IPL there are such big squads and so many big names and so much emphasis on the amount … [Read more...] about Cricket kind of gets forgotten in IPL; PSL, LPL more rewarding: Steyn

Cricket: Sixes galore as India clinch T20 series win over Windies

· December 12, 2019 ·

MUMBAI: Skipper Virat Kohli led the sixes charge with seven hits over the fence to set up India's series-clinching 67-run win over the West Indies in the third Twenty20 international on Wednesday (Dec 11). Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Kohli, who smashed an unbeaten 70 off 29 balls, combined to hit 16 sixes between them as the hosts posted 240 for three in Mumbai. The Indian bowlers then kept the West Indies to 173 for eight to win the three-match series 2-1. Sharma, who hit 71, and Rahul, who top-scored with 91, put on 135 runs for the opening wicket to lay the platform for India's imposing total. Kohli, who was named man of the series for his 183 runs and a career-best 94 not out in the opening win, soon joined the party to flay the West Indies attack as he completed his fifty in just 21 balls. "I had the opportunity to do something different, which I don't usually do," Kohli said of his slam-bang innings. "I told KL to stay on till the end, and said I'll try and smash a … [Read more...] about Cricket: Sixes galore as India clinch T20 series win over Windies
