The gala,which is organised by Thanh Nien (Young People) newspaper, will be held at Hoa Binh Theatre in HCM City from January 3-6. Organisers hoped to raise VND1.5 billion (approximately US$100,000) for the newspaper’s Nguyen Thai Binh Scholarship Fund for poor students. The annual event, which has proven highly popular with local audiences, will feature 200 overseas Vietnamese and local performers, models and actresses. The Nam Hai helps poor students By Mong Binh in HCMC The luxury resort The Nam Hai handed out scholarships to 57 underprivileged students in the central province of Quang Nam over the weekend as part of its 'Sympathetic Hearts' charity program. At Le Ngoc Gia Secondary School, the resort's management, local authorities and donators delivered nearly US$2,000 worth of aid to students in need of books, stationery and writing utensils. The Nam Hai launched 'Sympathetic Hearts' in July to help financially vulnerable women and children in Dien Duong Commune in Quang Nam Province. In addition to educational support, the fund also finances the construction of houses for homeless women and provides food and clothes to handicapped children. All 14 of The Nam Hai's department heads, including general manager Herbert Laubichler-Pichler, participate in the operation of the fund. (C.T.C), the developer of the ecology real estate project Saigon Sunbay in HCMC’s Can Gio District, has donated 445 gifts to students of a local elementary school and secondary school all named Doi Lau in An Thoi Dong Commune for the new school-year of 2011-2012. The donation included a backpack and ten notebooks for each student. Fifty per cent of students at Doi Lau Elementary School receive donations and support from the school’s fund. Doi Lau Elementary School, Doi Lau Secondary School and Doi Lau Kindergarten are located in the same place so students don’t have enough space for entertainment and sporting activities.
