Following Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to intervene in the matter of Karnataka laying restrictions on people entering from the neighbouring State, Health Minister K. Sudhakar has clarified that there is no prohibition on travel but there are protocols to be followed in the light of a spike in COVID-19 cases. He said in a tweet, “Karnataka has not prohibited inter-State travel between Karnataka and Kerala. However, as a precautionary measure, guidelines have been issued that travellers entering Karnataka from Kerala must mandatorily possess a negative RT-PCR test report not older than 72 hours.” Dr. Sudhakar pointed out that similar steps had been taken for people visiting Karnataka from Maharashtra. “These steps are necessary to keep a check on transmission of COVID-19 virus from Kerala and Maharashtra as they are witnessing a spike in recent weeks,” said the Minister. Residents near proposed North Canterbury racecourse quarry ‘let down’ by racing club
JOHN KIRK-ANDERSON/STUFF Protesters have united against a proposed quarry at North Canterbury's Rangiora Racecourse. (Video first published December 2020). Residents opposing a quarry in Rangiora have accused racing clubs of putting the cart before the horse. However, at the latest public meeting on Tuesday over the proposal for Taggart Earthmoving to establish a quarry at the racecourse, those involved did not front to answer concerns. Hosting the meeting, Waimakariri MP Matt Doocey said both Taggart and the Rangiora Harness Racing Club had been invited, but neither showed up. The harness club declined, saying it was not its application. Pennsylvania health network prioritized vaccines for employees’ relatives
One of Pennsylvania’s largest health networks gave special access for coronavirus vaccines to employees' relatives, prompting criticism from health officials who said that other groups should have been prioritized. The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Geisinger, a regional health care provider in parts of Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey, said it held employee vaccination clinics on three consecutive Sundays in late January and early February, at which each person was allowed to bring two family members deemed eligible under the state’s vaccine rollout plan. Geisinger, which has about 24,000 employees, told the AP that approximately 3,600 relatives were vaccinated as part of the campaign.
