25+ Common WordPress Mistakes to Avoid

· February 3, 2015 ·

As a content curator, one of the biggest and most embarrassing) mistakes I made in 2014 is to repeat the known mistakes when it came WordPress and blogging in general. Every New Year calls for new resolutions. Some (try to) lose weight – “I’m going to weigh 130 pounds by the end of this year”, some make adventurous plans – “I’m definitely going skydiving in March”, while some decide to finally tie the knot – “It’s time we eternalized it”! Not that we’re a month into this year, let us all add a resolution to the list – “WordPress mistakes never to repeat in 2015 (or the years to come)”. Hundreds of skeletons fill this remote Himalayan lake. How did they get there?

· February 24, 2021 ·

High in the Himalayas, a four-to-five-day trek from the nearest village, sits an unassuming glacial lake called Roopkund. The spot is beautiful, a dollop of jewel-toned water amid rough gravel and scree, but hardly out of the ordinary for the rugged landscape — except for the hundreds of human bones scattered within and around the lake. These bones, belonging to between 300 and 800 people, have been a mystery since a forest ranger first reported them to the broader world in 1942. Lately, though, the mystery has only deepened. In 2019, a new genetic analysis of the ancient DNA in the bones, detailed in the journal Nature Communications , found that at least 14 of the people who died at the lake probably weren't from South Asia. Instead, their genes match those of modern-day people of the eastern Mediterranean. Related: 11 famous places that are littered with dead bodies What's more, these bones were far newer than most of the others at the lake, which date to … [Read more...] about Hundreds of skeletons fill this remote Himalayan lake. Our Views: Texas is hurting, but don’t ignore crisis closer to home

· February 24, 2021 ·

Everything’s bigger in Texas. That includes the scale of a tragedy like last week’s winter storm, the reach of an infrastructure collapse that left millions of people without heat and running water for days — and the size of the spotlight on the immediate suffering and on the storm's costly aftermath. The people affected deserve every bit of sympathy they’re getting. And the state’s politicians deserve all the scorn that’s coming their way, for setting up a system that left ordinary citizens vulnerable, for trotting out ideological talking points to explain away the crisis, and in one case, for flying to sunny Cancún in the midst of the disaster. If what happened in Texas is a huge story, though, that doesn’t mean the disaster in parts of Louisiana is less of one. While the storm’s impact here didn’t make national headlines, it was also harrowing. Ice, rolling power outages and freezing pipes caused massive damage in the northern and western parts of the state. As of Monday, … [Read more...] about Our Views: Texas is hurting, but don’t ignore crisis closer to home
