George HW Bush represented ‘finest of the Greatest Generation’: PM Lee

SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong described the late George HW Bush as one who represented "the finest of the Greatest Generation", in a tribute to the 41st American President. In a Facebook post on Sunday (Dec 2), Mr Lee, while attending the G20 Summit in Buenos Aires, said he was saddened to hear of the former US leader's passing. "He represented the finest of the Greatest Generation, and served his country with courage, devotion, compassion, and humility. He never lost his sense of adventure, and even went skydiving to celebrate his 90th birthday!" Mr Lee added that he remembered President Bush's state visit to Singapore in 1992 which was the first by a US President. George H.W. Bush recovering in hospital: Office

WASHINGTON: Former US President George H.W. Bush, admitted to the hospital shortly after the funeral of his beloved wife, has been moved out of intensive care, his office said on Wednesday (Apr 25). Bush, 93, is feeling "good" and focused on the Houston Rockets' Wednesday night National Basketball Association playoff game, a statement from his office said. The 41st president was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital on Sunday morning, the day after the memorial service for Barbara Bush, his wife of 73 years. She died on Apr 17 at the age of 92. Bush has been moved from intensive care to a regular room at the hospital, where he is "expected to continue his recovery there for several more days," his office said. It had earlier announced that Bush had contracted an infection that spread to his blood. "He is alert and talking with hospital staff, family and friends," the office said on Wednesday. George Floyd: US House of Representatives approves police reform bill banning chokeholds

A police reform bill in honour of George Floyd that will ban chokeholds and "qualified immunity" for law enforcement officials has been passed by the US House of Representatives. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act would also ban no-knock warrants, mandate data collection on police encounters, prohibit racial and religious profiling and redirect funding to community-based policing programs. The 220-212 vote comes nine months after Mr Floyd , a black man, died when a police officer in Minneapolis pressed a knee on his neck for several minutes. As he died, Mr Floyd was repeatedly heard to say: "I can't breathe." His death in May 2020 prompted massive protests across the US and around the world calling for an end to racial injustice and police brutality. Riot Games Executive Resigns After George Floyd Social Media Post

After sharing a Facebook post regarding George Floyd's death, a Riot Games executive has stepped down from the company. On Wednesday, Vice reported that Global Head of Consumer Products at Riot Games Ron Johnson had shared a Facebook post with Floyd's picture that listed his past criminal record. "This is no reason to condone his killing by the officer at all, which still needs to be investigated as a potential crime," Johnson wrote in the post. "It is a learning opportunity for people (and your kids) to teach that this type of criminal lifestyle never results in good things happening to you or those around you." A Riot Games spokesperson told Vice that they had "launched an investigation" and "that the sentiment in that image is abhorrent, against our values, and directly counter to our belief that addressing systemic racism requires immediate societal change."
