Data released this week suggests that the Chinese market for new energy vehicles could shrink this year, according to an industry group. The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers said Monday that the sales of electric, hybrid and fuel cell cars plunged by over 45% in October, marking four straight months of declines in the sector. "Because of the insufficient demand of the domestic market, the pressure for automakers to upgrade their technology to the national standard, and the major subsidy cuts for new energy vehicles, the recovery of production and sales is still limited," said Chen Shihua, assistant secretary general of the group. Continental AG has developed a new server for the Volkswagen ID electric vehicles, informs the company in a release.The new server concept is claimed to be a central element for the conversion of electricity to a service-oriented electronics architecture in highly connected ID electric cars. Tesla may be the current market leader in electric cars, but the American automaker could soon have some serious competition on its hands. British engineering giant Dyson has announced plans to develop a "radical and different" electric vehicle, for release in 2020. In an email to employees on Tuesday, founder Sir James Dyson said he intended to invest £2 billion in the project, which will incorporate technology from the company's vacuum cleaners, bladeless fans and supersonic hairdryers. "At this moment, we finally have the opportunity to bring all our technologies together into a single product," he wrote. "We've started building an exceptional team that combines top Dyson engineers with talented individuals from the automotive industry.
