The Ultimate WordPress Cheatsheet

· August 5, 2015 ·

WordPress is quickly becoming a household name if it isn’t already. It’s everywhere, this benign beauty, powering some of the best websites and web apps the world has ever seen. It’s a premiere CMS and blogging platform that’s not only incredibly versatile, but also amazingly easy to learn and use. Why else would WordPress grow in popularity each passing day? But what you see on the surface when you set up and launch WordPress is just a small fraction of what goes on behind the scenes. In fact, the beautiful UI we all so love is nothing compared to the bedlam of activity backstage. What I mean is, WordPress runs on two somewhat complicated web technologies known as PHP and MySQL. Adding Javascript To WordPress Themes The Right Way

· April 14, 2011 ·

There is a specific way for adding Javascript to your WordPress theme in order to prevent any conflicts with plugins or parent WordPress Themes. The problem is that many “developers” call their javascript files directly in the header.php or footer.php file which is the incorrect way of doing it. In this guide I will show you how to correctly call your javascript files using your functions.php file so they load right into your site’s head or footer tag. This way if you are developing a theme for distribution and your end user wants to modify the scripts via a child theme they can or if they are using minifying/caching or other optimization plugins they will work correctly. And if you are working with a child theme you  your scripts are added the right way, without copying the header.php or footer.php files into your child theme which are shouldn’t ever be necessary (when working with a well coded theme) Wrong Way To Add Javascript To WordPress Themes Calling the javascript in your … [Read more...] about Adding Javascript To WordPress Themes The Right Way

· February 3, 2015 ·

As a content curator, one of the biggest and most embarrassing) mistakes I made in 2014 is to repeat the known mistakes when it came WordPress and blogging in general. Every New Year calls for new resolutions. Some (try to) lose weight – “I’m going to weigh 130 pounds by the end of this year”, some make adventurous plans – “I’m definitely going skydiving in March”, while some decide to finally tie the knot – “It’s time we eternalized it”! Not that we’re a month into this year, let us all add a resolution to the list – “WordPress mistakes never to repeat in 2015 (or the years to come)”. I’ve been contributing to WPExplorer for over a year now and I’d like to kick off this year with a brand new post series which deals with the most common WordPress mistakes. We start by looking at 5 crucial factors that deal with launching a WordPress site and move on to recommendations that will bear fruit in the long run. These well-known points can be easily classified under “been there, done … [Read more...] about 25+ Common WordPress Mistakes to Avoid
