Alleged N19bn fraud: Court adjourns until April 13, 14, trial of Dasuki, others
Kindly Share This Story: An FCT High Court has adjourned until April 13 and April 14, the trial of former National Security Adviser (NSA), rtd Col. Sambo Dasuki and four others for alleged misappropriation of N19.4 billion arms funds. Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf fixed the date after dismissing an objection raised by Dasuki’s lawyer, Yinka Adedipe, against the withdrawal of a document by the counsel of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Justice Baba-Yusuf held that the defendants’ objection was misconceived. He held that the authority cited by Adedipe was misconstrued, adding that the prosecutor was within his right to withdraw the document since he did not join the issue with the defendants’ counsel. While overruling the defendants’ objection to the withdrawal of the document by EFCC counsel, Baba-Yusuf held” the objection is misconceived and therefore, the document stands withdrawn.” Also read: Alleged N3.1bn fraud: Court … [Read more...] about Alleged N19bn fraud: Court adjourns until April 13, 14, trial of Dasuki, others
New Zealand First Foundation case: Fraud accused duo set for High Court trial
Two men charged with fraudulently depositing money into a New Zealand First Foundation account have had their case moved to the High Court and a trial date set. The pair were charged by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in September after allegedly transferring more than $750,000 into a NZ First Foundation account. Media organisations, including Stuff, sought to reveal the pair’s identities before the October general election . However, despite hearings at the District Court, High Court and seeking leave to the Court of Appeal, the application was declined. Last December, Judge Deidre Orchard again declined name suppression for the men, that was immediately appealed and the pair appeared at the High Court at Auckland on Wednesday in front of Justice Sally Fitzgerald. Biden administration withdraws from Connecticut transgender athlete case
The Biden administration has moved to withdraw federal support for a lawsuit against the state of Connecticut seeking to prohibit it from letting transgender athletes compete in girls' sports at the high school level, the Associated Press reported Wednesday. The Justice Department's withdrawal came ahead of a Friday hearing in the case over the state's motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The families of three high school girls sued Connecticut officials in 2020 , arguing that allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls' sports forced athletes "to compete against boys." “Forcing them to compete against boys isn’t fair, shatters their dreams, and destroys their athletic opportunities,” an attorney for the plaintiffs, Christiana Holcomb, said last year. “Having separate boys’ and girls’ sports has always been based on biological differences, not what people believe about their gender, because those differences matter for fair competition."
