Did Anthony Scaramucci Take Satire About Trump Wanting to Name Kids to Supreme Court Seriously?

· February 23, 2021 ·

In a satirical piece for the New Yorker, comedian Andy Borowitz joked that Donald Trump’s “greatest regret” as American’s commander-in-chief was not naming his children Ivanka, Eric and Donald Jr. to the US Supreme Court, following its Monday ruling allowing New York prosecutors to obtain the former president’s tax records. Borowitz “cited” the ex-president’s claim “on Fox News” that his three children apparently could have turned out “way better judges” than “those three clowns” he named to America’s highest court – referring to Trump’s nominees Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. “Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett are the worst people who have ever worked for me. And that includes Scaramucci,” Borowitz 'quoted' Trump as saying – a remark never to be found on the Fox News. But Anthony Scaramucci, Trump's fierce critic and one-time White House Communications Director, who was sacked in July 2017 just ten days after being appointed, apparently took the … [Read more...] about Did Anthony Scaramucci Take Satire About Trump Wanting to Name Kids to Supreme Court Seriously?

Handforth Parish Council – made famous by that Zoom meeting – may be abolished

· February 24, 2021 ·

A parish council that went viral after a Zoom meeting descended into chaos could be scrapped. The bad tempered - and occasionally foul-mouthed - meeting of Handforth Parish Council became an internet sensation, largely thanks to participant Jackie Weaver's calm handling of the unruly behaviour. A clip has been viewed millions of times around the world and made an unlikely star of Ms Weaver, who struggled to maintain order in her role as chief officer of Cheshire Association of Local Councils. Despite her efforts, Ms Weaver was forced to remove the council chairman from the virtual meeting after he made the now famous accusation "you have no authority here", prompting another councillor to demand she "read the standing orders". Both the council and Ms Weaver were trending on social media and have since become household names. · February 24, 2021 ·

She had turned up for a COVID-19 test at a clinic in Washington, DC, when the staff finally called her in for her appointment. “They asked me my name and I said, ‘I’m Rona,’” said Rona Hoang, 30, “and they said, ‘No, we know you’re here for a COVID test. What’s your name?’ “And I’m like, ‘No, my name is Rona.’ “Everyone was kind of chuckling and laughing. I was genuinely laughing along with them,” she said, “but then when I left, there was part of me that was like, should I be mad?” It’s been a tough year for Ronas. Ever since the coronavirus spread around the world and upended all our lives in significant and ghastly ways, people named Rona have also been hit with a series of silly microaggressions and jokes related to their names. “My 15-year-old insists that nobody calls the coronavirus ‘the rona,’ but I see it all over Twitter,” said Rona Kobell, 48, a longtime reporter in Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay who is now running a new nonprofit focusing on environmental … [Read more...] about What It’s Like Being Named Rona In The Time Of “The Rona”
