REUTERS: Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen have come together to create a 20 million euros (18.3 million pounds) solidarity fund to help German clubs in the top two tiers stave off a potential financial crisis during the coronavirus pandemic. Germany's Bundesliga and second division are set to resume in April but the organising body's (DFL) executive committee has recommended the season be suspended until at least April 30, which will further impact revenues of clubs across the country. Dortmund said the four clubs, who participated in the Champions League this season, will forego their share of the national media revenue - approximately 12.5 million euros - while adding an additional 7.5 million euros of their own. "We are prepared to help out other professional football clubs if it is ultimately a matter of cushioning the financial effects of the pandemic," Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said in a statement … [Read more...] about Four Bundesliga teams create a 20 million euros fund for clubs in crisis

Football: Bayern take training online to reduce virus risk
MUNICH: Keen to avoid unnecessary travel while maintaining social contact, Bayern Munich have set up 'cyber-training' sessions where players work out together online by following exercises streamed from the club's headquarters. "We all have to try to deal with the situation in a positive way," Bayern coach Hansi Flick told the club's website. "Yesterday (Wednesday) at 11 am, we had our first 'Cyber Training', where the team were coached remotely. Everyone was motivated, everyone did very well." The state of Bavaria has not yet introduced mandatory confinement measures, but Bundesliga leaders Bayern have decided to keep their players at home in order to best respect the instructions from health authorities. Bartomeu provisionally set free after spending night in jail
MADRID - Former Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu was provisionally set free on Tuesday after appearing before a judge following a night in jail while being investigated for possible irregularities during his administration. Court officials said Bartomeu and his former adviser at the Spanish club, Jaume Masferrer, used their right not to make any comments in court. The club itself has not been charged but Bartomeu was not cleared. Court officials lifted the case’s secrecy and those accused will have access to the evidence gathered by authorities before appearing in court again. The arrests came less than a week before the … [Read more...] about Bartomeu provisionally set free after spending night in jail
