PDLs next on vaccine priority list – DoJ
PRISONERS or persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) will be next on the government’s priority list of individuals to be inoculated with Covid jabs, according to the Department of Justice (DoJ). Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra made the assurance on Friday after inmates were left off the final list of subcategories under vaccine priority A4 released by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). Guevarra said that PDLs were not included in the A4 list for being not frontliners even as he stressed detainees would certainly be vaccinated soon. “PDLs have not been included as they are not frontliners. But the DoJ will make sure PDLs will also be vaccinated like everyone else, as they are highly vulnerable to transmission of the Covid-19 virus due to lack of space,” he added. “There is still a category B and C. More than twice as many Americans in San Francisco, California, died from drug overdoses in 2020 as did from the Chinese coronavirus, San Francisco’s Chief Medical Examiner reveals. In preliminary data published by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for San Francisco, more than twice as many Americans were found to have died from drug overdoses as they did from coronavirus despite a massive emphasis on pandemic deaths from January to December 2020. “More than twice as many people died from drug overdoses as from Covid-19 in San Francisco last year,” the Wall Street Journal reported . In 2020, a record 708 San Francisco residents died from drug overdoses while 254 residents died from coronavirus. Already this year, in January and February, 137 San Francisco residents have died from drug overdoses, the Chief Medical Examiner report shows.
