Recent discoveries of injured and unwell seabirds has highlighted the lack of rehabilitation facilities for wildlife in Nelson. In North Nelson, residents have spoken of coming across emaciated and unwell shags , with local vets the only place to take them after Natureland ceased doing rehabiliation work. Natureland Wildlife Trust chairman Stephen Standley said it stopped doing wildlife rehab about 18 months ago. “We just had to make the decision, we didn’t have enough funds to do everything and that was the one we decided we could no longer continue,” he said. “It wasn’t a decision we took lightly.” READ MORE: Warmer sea temperatures making it tough for juvenile shags Mystery disease killing yellow-eyed penguin chicks Native gull euthanised after being taken to Wellington Zoo with a bullet in its shoulder He estimated service cost between $30,000 to $50,000 to run each year. (JOEY GABIETA/INQUIRER PHOTO) TACLOBAN CITY –– A mall in this city resumed operations on Friday, almost two years after it was destroyed by fire. Daughter ‘absolutely outraged’ after council parks large skip on mum’s grave
A woman was left "absolutely outraged" after discovering a large skip had been placed on her mum's grave. Shannon O'Brien visited the resting place of her mum Catherine at the cemetery in Alfteron on Tuesday, March 2. The 20-year-old was shocked to find a large container of soil sitting on top of it, Derbyshire Telegraph reported . Several expensive ornaments including a personalised memorial wreath and a cross had been damaged. The destruction came just a year and a half after Catherine took her own life in November 2019. The environmental health officer had suffered from bipolar disorder. The damage, which was caused by a council skip, has added further heartache to the grieving family. Shannon said: "We were absolutely outraged when visiting the cemetery that the council had done this to her gravesite. "My mum sadly died to suicide and this was her resting place. For it to be treated in this way is horrifying. I can't really put it into words. "There was more … [Read more...] about Daughter ‘absolutely outraged’ after council parks large skip on mum’s grave
