Democrats urge US Treasury not to delay US$25 billion in grants to airlines

· April 2, 2020 ·

WASHINGTON: U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged the U.S. Treasury on Wednesday not to hold up US$25 billion in cash grants approved by Congress last week to airlines for payroll costs. "We do want them to honor what our conversation was, which is this is just a stopping-off point for the check. It goes to the airline and directly to the employee," Pelosi told reporters on a conference call. "We just don't want to hold it up." Major aviation unions and some airline officials are concerned the U.S. Treasury will demand too much in warrants or equity as a condition of the grants for airline payroll costs. Treasury on Monday told airlines to propose financial instruments as part of their applications for grants that they want to see by Friday. Treasury did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. The legislation requires equity, warrants or other financial compensation for taxpayers for the US$25 billion in loans, but gives Treasury Secretary Steven … [Read more...] about Democrats urge US Treasury not to delay US$25 billion in grants to airlines

Democrats Courted Fight for $15. The Movement Wants Them to Deliver.

Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images for One Fair Wage When LaTonya Jones Costa goes to work, her shift can start at a deathbed. It happened that way in December, when the home health aide arrived at the residence of a much-loved client. The woman’s lips were blue; there was vomit and feces on her. Still conscious, she worried about missing a doctor’s appointment, but Costa knew she needed a hospital and called for an ambulance. By the time the medics arrived, they couldn’t find the woman’s vitals. They took her away, and the same day, Costa received the call she’d been dreading: The woman had died. “What hurt me the most was that I wasn’t able to be there with her,” Costa said, choking up. Costa makes $10 an hour. This is a fifty-cent improvement from when she first started working as a certified nursing assistant in Georgia in 2007. Paying her bills is a question of “creative budgeting,” she said. The lights have to stay on now, and her twelve-year-old daughter needs the … [Read more...] about Democrats Courted Fight for $15. Democrats who voted no say party didn’t make impeachment case against Trump

· December 19, 2019 ·

WASHINGTON: The impeachment vote against President Donald Trump on Wednesday (Dec 18) posed a political test for 31 House Democrats who represent districts that backed Trump in the 2016 presidential election, as Republicans warned that those lawmakers could face a backlash if they supported the effort to remove the president from office. In the end, only three of the 31 voted against one or both of the articles of impeachment that accuse Trump of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Exclusive — House Conservatives Release Playbook on How to Fight Joe Biden’s Radical Immigration Agenda

· March 2, 2021 ·

The Republican Study Committee (RSC) will release a nine-page document on Tuesday afternoon exposing Democrat President Joe Biden’s radical immigration agenda and recommended steps on how congressional Republicans can stop it. The document , obtained by Breitbart News exclusively ahead of its public release, is the most consequential and in-depth GOP publication to date exposing Biden’s executive actions and legislative agenda when it comes to open borders and amnesty and a broader immigration vision. In it, the RSC—the biggest group of House conservatives on Capitol Hill with more than 150 House Republicans who consider themselves members—details in page after page exactly how extreme Biden’s actions so far have been and how detrimental the policies are to American workers. “President Biden’s has made it a mission of his to refashion our nation’s immigration system into one that focuses on mollifying the political aspirations of the Far Left rather than those of American … [Read more...] about Exclusive — House Conservatives Release Playbook on How to Fight Joe Biden’s Radical Immigration Agenda

White House official backtracks after admitting Trump tied Ukraine aid to political effort

· October 18, 2019 ·

WASHINGTON: A top White House official admitted on Thursday (Oct 17) that President Donald Trump had tied military aid for Ukraine to Kiev undertaking an investigation that would help Trump politically, adding ammunition to Democrats' impeachment probe. Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney's stunning admission supports a key allegation in the House impeachment effort, that the president illicitly sought foreign political help as he seeks re-election next year. Mulvaney said it was true that Trump used the aid to prod Kiev in July to investigate the allegation - widely viewed as groundless - that the Democratic National Committee had hidden a computer server in Ukraine that would undermine claims that Trump's 2016 election victory was helped by Russian meddling. Trump did not want to send nearly US$400 million in military aid to Ukraine because the country was deeply corrupt, Mulvaney said. "Did he also mention to me in passing the corruption related to the DNC … [Read more...] about White House official backtracks after admitting Trump tied Ukraine aid to political effort
