You Can Now Read Scott Rudin and David Denby’s

Early Sunday , a panicked e-mail from Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that New Yorker film critic David Denby would be publishing his Girl With the Dragon Tattoo review in this week’s magazine, violating the studio’s December 13 embargo. A small firestorm ensued, mostly stoked by Nikki Finke, who chimed in to call Tattoo producer Scott Rudin “the biggest baby.” (A few film critics also had some opinions.) But what does Denby have to say for himself, you might be wondering, or how is Rudin feeling? You’re in luck! David Bowie’s 1970 Recordings Collected for New ‘Width of a Circle’ Compilation

David Bowie ’s The Width of a Circle , a collection of non-LP singles, alternate versions, and BBC sessions that he recorded in 1970, is set for release on May 28th. The late singer’s latest archival compilation boasts 21 unreleased recordings, including many culled from a 14-song session for John Peel that was recorded February 5th, 1970, as well as Bowie’s five-song score for the BBC drama Pierrot in Turquoise a.k.a The Looking Glass Murders , which featured Bowie in the role of a pantomime. The two-CD set also contains four songs Bowie and his then-backing band the Hype played during a March 1970 visit to The Andy Ferris Show , two of which — a cover of Velvet Underground’s “Waiting for the Man” and “The Width of a Circle” — were previously unreleased. A Boy Embarks on a Mythical Adventure in Trailer for David Oyelowo’s ‘The Water Man’

A boy searches for a mythical figure in hopes of curing his sick mother in The Water Man , out May 7th. Directed by and starring David Oyelowo , the trailer features a family relocating from a city to a rural town to provide a better environment for the mother (Rosario Dawson), who is ill. The son (Lonnie Chavis) discovers the myth of the immortal Water Man and sets out to find him to save Dawson. The father, played by Oyelowo, follows clues to find his son. “ The Water Man is a story about how far a heroic young boy will go to save his mother,” Oyelowo said in a statement. “I grew up loving family films that have adventure, fantasy, and jeopardy whilst never patronizing their young protagonists. Still from The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (US) trailer Sony Pictures Entertainment’s publicity department sent out an early morning (2 a.m.) e-mail today that is creating shock waves in the film criticism world. It singled out The New Yorker ’s critic, David Denby, for breaking an embargo the studio had placed on any reviews for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo running before December 13, about a week prior to the film’s release date. David Beckham to mentor young footballers in new Disney+ series

David Beckham will mentor young grassroots footballers in a new Disney+ factual series. The sports star, who has played for clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid, will return to the east London pitches where his life in the game began, to support a struggling team. The former England footballer will take the players, their coaches and communities on "an uplifting, transformative journey of a lifetime," according to Disney. The show, called Save Our Squad, will be made by production company Twenty Twenty and Studio 99, the global content and production studio co-founded by Beckham. "It is fantastic to be making Save Our Squad with Twenty Twenty and to shine a light on the kind of grassroots football that I experienced growing up," he said.
